All the clinicians are amazing (shout out to Caroline!). I think all of them are great at their jobs, which unfortunately isn't the case at every program. If I ever needed to go back to res I'd wanna go back there

What I experienced there I do not wish it on anyone. The most racist, non compassionate and non understanding staff that I have ever encountered.

I LOVED this program. I literally went in thinking recovery is a scam, happiness is a myth, and misery is inevitable, and I left feeling really good about recovery for the first time in a long time. I know people who had their issues here, I had some too, but for the most part it was a lovely experience. Now that I've been through step down and have met people who went to other Monte Nido residentials, I can say that Glen Cove was not as strict as like Laurel Hill for example. They're really willing to work with you, but some people don't do as well with that I guess. I personally appreciated the staff not giving up on me when I was really struggling, and it worked out better for me, because I heard at Laurel Hill it would have been different and I might not be where I am now. Glen Cove was also a bit more relaxed with Covid protocols, although I would say that had more to do with clients' unwillingness than staff not attempting to enforce it. I'd think with the vaccine rollout starting that's a less present issue but when I was there we didn't really wear masks. The only staff member I had a real issue with I hear has left. All the clinicians are amazing (shout out to Caroline!). I think all of them are great at their jobs, which unfortunately isn't the case at every program. If I ever needed to go back to res I'd wanna go back there. It's a good program with lovely people, and it changed my life.

My primary therapist was really helpful in recovering from my eating disorder, and the medical and psychiatric care were both strong. I was satisfied with their care providing, especially the assistance in planning and attending various medical appointments.

Firstly, I have to commend the Recovery Coaches here. They care and it shows. They were receptive to the clients needs, went above and beyond in times of crisis, were always present to talk and offer support, and did their best to maintain a safe environment that was conducive to recovery. They are professionals in every sense of the word, and I applaud them.
The same cannot be said of the upper level staff at Monte Nido Glen Cove. Far from professional, the words I find most fitting would be condescending, dismissive, and arrogant. Serious issues that impacted the safety of the environment and other clients would be routinely dismissed, and when frustrations were voiced in regards to this sort of inaction, clients would be dismissed as "being emotional", which is unacceptable for any professional working in this field.
A word of warning to anybody considering treatment at Monte Nido Glen Cove, be absolutely sure that your insurance will not retroactively charge you for time spent at the facility, in the event of leaving ACA. The staff will not work with you in regards to discharging to attend outside responsibilities (School, work, etc), will not help to setup outpatient care, and *will* threaten you with exorbitant costs and fees if you consider leaving ACA. It is truly awful to feel like you are being held hostage financially while responsibilities pile up in the outside world.
If you have really great insurance, a lot of time and responsibilities you can put aside, and the patience of a saint, I would recommend this facility. If you are an adult and expect an adult facility, look elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions About Monte Nido Glen Cove
How do I get started?
During a quick, confidential call, our admissions team will gather your basic information and explain the next steps, which typically include requesting blood work, verifying insurance coverage, and scheduling an intake assessment.
Do I need to fill out any forms in the admissions process?
Our admissions team will walk you through every step of the process and will try to make it as easy as possible while ensuring we collect the information we need. Anything that requires your signature or feedback will be available for electronic signing in a patient portal. This may include releases of information for providers and family members, and financial forms once admission is scheduled.
How long will the evaluation process take?
The intake assessment typically takes 45-60 minutes and is generally done over Zoom. We will ask for eating disorder history and current concerns, as well as supporting information to help us make a level of care recommendation. With your permission, the clinician may also contact your outpatient providers and/or family members for additional information.
What levels of care could I be admitted to?
We provide comprehensive care options, including intensive inpatient, home-like residential living, day (PHP/IOP), and virtual care (PHP/IOP) options, to best meet your recovery needs.
When I’m admitted to full-time in-person care (Intensive 24-hour Care or Residential Living), what should I bring with me?
We ask that you limit your total belongings to what will fit in one medium suitcase. Items not approved will be sent home. Please bring appropriate, comfortable clothing. Upon admission, a staff member will respectfully look through your belongings, and any items deemed inappropriate will be removed and either sent home or kept by staff. A complete list of suggested items will be provided by admissions.
What should I bring if I am admitted part-time or to transitional care?
On your first day of treatment, please bring contact information for your outpatient providers and pack meals. We will provide snacks, beverages, and supplemental exchanges. A staff member will meet with you when you arrive to give you an orientation to the program and answer any questions you may have.
Can I receive mail during treatment?
Yes. You may receive mail during your stay with us.
Who is included in my treatment team?
Your treatment team depends on the level of care you are receiving. At the 24/7 inpatient and residential levels of care, the primary treatment team will include medical staff of psychiatrist, doctor or nurse practitioner.
