We recently dined at Mitchell’s Ocean Club with high expectations, particularly for the seafood—and in that regard, the kitchen did deliver. The dishes we tried were flavorful and well-prepared, showcasing fresh ingredients and solid technique.
However, there were a few misses that impacted our overall experience. My wife ordered the Grouper, which was listed without any mention of tomatoes. Unfortunately, the dish arrived smothered in tomato-based ingredients, which she does not care for. Luckily, I had ordered something different, and we were able to switch plates without too much disruption to the meal.
The ambiance also fell short of what we had hoped. The bar area was packed and quite noisy, which spilled over into the dining space. It created more of a lively, party atmosphere than the romantic, upscale vibe we were expecting. A bit more separation between the bar and dining areas—either with better soundproofing or more strategic seating—would go a long way.
That said, the service was excellent. Our server was attentive, professional, and handled the evening with grace. We truly appreciated the staff’s efforts.
In the end, while the food and service were commendable, the atmosphere just wasn’t a match for what we were seeking. We’re glad we tried it, but we’ll likely look elsewhere for our next special night out.
The Ocean Club was my wife's favorite place to dine.
I don’t dine as much there since I've had a few bad dinner experiences in the past, although the appetizers are good.
Last Friday evening the place was packed and loud but the “fishy” smell in the restaurant was a turnoff.
The crab cake smelled fishy with a bad Caesar salad but the Lamb chops were OK.
The very expensive wagyu filet was tiny on a huge plate and according to friends from NYC didn’t taste like the real thing.
Too much bread in the French onion soup, otherwise was OK.
Side dishes; broccoli, truffle macaroni and cheese looked and tasted bad. The potatoes were liquidee and they all looked like the box type.
Overcooked salmon was served cold and the substitute portion was as bad as the first. The cook needs training at the Ocean Prime restaurant, either in Indianapolis or Troy, or Ocean Club should hire back Ulysses from Cap City in Gahanna to cook their fish dishes.
The service and management was very helpful to fix and replace some of the dishes but the experience was bad and I don't think
I will be back.

This is by far the best place to enjoy oysters, lobster, and especially the lobster bisque soup! Every dish was incredibly delicious and creamy, with generous chunks of fresh lobster in every bite. I’ve tried lobster bisque at many different restaurants, but none compare to the one here at Mitchell’s Ocean Club. This soup is on a whole other level — absolutely divine. By far a 10/10. Compliments to the chef! And don't forget to ask for Christian amazing server

We have been to ocean club before and had an excellent time. I went on 9/27 and that experience makes me never want to return.
We were taken to a table by the kitchen and our server was not friendly. She was very loud and short with us. She ignored our table and i saw her multiple times in the kitchen scrolling on her phone and gossiping loudly with other staff about patrons there! We waited a long time to get our order, get refills, ask if we needed anything, boxing... she kept disappearing to the kitchen.
Usuually the food is excellent here but it was not this time. The lobster mac and cheese was very dry! For $44 i expect lobster that is moist/juicy! The lamb was way too salty and chewy (weve had it before and it melted in your mouth last time). The drinks we got tasted expired. It was sour in a "this has gone bad" type of way (the drink was non alchoholic). I was trying to make sure my daughter had a good time so we decided to just pay and go.
Also: When it came time to pay the server stood there and didnt leave. I felt awkward deciding how much to tip with her just standing there staring at me. I dont know if maybe thats a new policy because i dont remember the server standing there waiting for me to pay before...
We like going to ocean club because of the service! We can get amazing food in lots of places in columbus. Service is what made ocean club stand apart. I will NOT be returning!

From the time you walk in to when you leave, the service is amazing. You’re greeted with smiling faces happy to see you there, and greeted by the wait staff immediately when you sit down. I have a dairy allergy and they made sure to make everything acceptable for my dietary restrictions. My waiter’s name was Jamie and he was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the cucumber gimlet which he recommended and it was fantastic. I had the jumbo shrimp cocktail which was crisp and cold. After I was finished with that, Jamie gave me a warm towel to clean my hands! I was amazed. My main dish was the Chilean sea bass and it was so yummy! I had a glass of Prosecco which Jamie chose and it was the perfect pallet cleanser. All the food was hot and cooked perfectly. I love this place, you really get what you pay for.
