  I hired Midtown Chimney Sweeps to inspect our older chimney. Then to line our chimney, seal the chimney cap, and tuckpoint some failing mortar towards the top of the chimney. The liner and cap went well. The tuckpointing was a complete failure however and I found them dishonest. Day 1 the liner and cap were completed, but the techs were having a hard time safely tuckpointing the chimney since it is a chimney and it is tall lol. They determined they would build scaffolding and complete it in a few days. A few days later they showed up as promised. I saw them setting up and went to work for the day. When I returned they were finishing up but right away I could tell it didn't look right from the ground. I asked if they could send me close up pictures of the tuckpointing since they snapped pics while they were up there. The work was horribly sloppy. It looked like a kid used his fingers to push mortar in the cracks. I'm not sure if they even ground out the old mortar before slapping the new on. On top of this, there were only pics of 3 sides of the chimney. When I asked the tech where the picture of the other side was they said they couldn't get to that side because they couldn't reach it. So if I hadn't asked to see the pictures I would've had no idea that they didn't do the other side, and at this point I had already paid for it. I called their boss the next day to complain about the sloppy and dishonest work. He was quite friendly and receptive and offered to have the crew out to fix the work. I refused and he offered a refund for the tuckpointing which I accepted. I've now hired another party to fix what they messed up and get to the other side and finish it. It's like night and day watching an experienced crew tuckpoint compared to Midtown. Overall I would not hire them again primarily because unless I had asked for the pics I would've had no idea only 3 sides of a chimney had been done (even though the work they did do was horrible) Side note, the techs and the owner all were pretty friendly lol.

  John was very knowledgable and friendly and thoroughly answered all of our questions. We were very appreciative of his ability to fit us into the schedule quickly, as well! I highly recommend John as he has a very professional demeanor and was very polite, as well!
