I asked if they had other sizes in a pair of jeans and the young employee looked bothered to help me. She did eventually find my size, then returned to her personal cell phone and stood behind the registers. I have had better experiences, but the manager is usually there and super nice.

First, let me say that I used to shop at Madewell some years ago, but had stopped when their clothing designs seemed stale and uninspiring. On a whim, I stopped in today with my husband to browse, and was blown away by how current and fun and fresh their new collection feels. I have been struggling recently to find clothes that feel not-too-this and not-too-that, and this new Madewell reboot is the sweet spot. Second, I have to compliment the staff that helped us today. Tara S., the store manager, never let me carry a single thing for long before wisking it away to a fitting room she started for me; she was like having my own personal shopper and stylist, she was that good. Whatever she's getting paid, I assure you, it's not enough. She was professional and helpful and courteous, and should be teaching courses on customer service. She and Lindsey (also amazing) both stepped in to get more sizes for me, and made the entire shopping experience feel elevated and customized. Many thanks to you both. I worked in retail once upon a time, and I know it can be stressful and thankless. You both made it seem easy. Good job, Madewell. If you, like I, gave up on Madewell, I urge you to give them another look.
