We completed two projects with Mad City. First, they tore out an entire wall & replaced it with a huge, glorious slider. The good news is that they were done in 2 days (1 day install, 1 day clean up & sealing). The door is phenomenal and, unlike every other slider I've been around, there are no cold drafts - I sat next to the door all winter & never got a chill! On the down side, the sales guy didn't warn us the that hardware color we selected was actually brown, not gold, and he listed our carsiding color as natural instead of honey oak & didn't verify with us, so now our room is half unstained pine & half honey oak stained pine. (In the installers' defense, they offered to go get the right color, but it would have pushed our install back a few weeks & it was already getting cold out.) Also, the installers forgot to bring the new header for the door, so we ended up getting warranty work done on the door a year later. They honored the warranty & installed the new header in a few hours. It was kind of impressive. Overall, we were happy enough to contract with them for the next project.
The 2nd project was replacing all the windows & a set of french doors. The sales guy (a different one) told us that all the windows would be tempered (they're not - only the ones around doors & stairs are, apparently) and impact resistant (they're not, according to the warranty office). He also messed up the door order, even though we asked multiple times whether the form was correct. He ended up coming out a 2nd time with the correct form for the french door, but the cost was a lot more than the slider he originally quoted us for. The mistake messed up our financing & we had to cough up a big chunk of cash to cover the difference. If we do another project with Mad City, I'm going to demand that their most experienced salesperson handle the ordering. Hopefully, it'll be someone with more than a month on the job. So, we're pretty upset about the ordering process. The measurement tech was awesome & worked around a challenging remodel mess. The installers were wonderful, too - super friendly, professional, and quick. Three people managed to replace all 13 windows in two days, despite the rain both days. The field supervisor was great, too - very helpful & responsive with everything.
Overall, we'll work with Mad City again (we have one more window to deal with, but it's a project & we need a break from remodeling!), but I'm not sure I'd work with them on my shower, since what I want is a little complicated & our experience with the salespeople left something to be desired. I have complete faith in their installers & their warranty, but little faith in their salespeople (it seems like Mad City gives them too much pressure to sell & not enough product training/install experience to answer detailed customer questions). The products themselves are phenomenal & the installation was painless - I'm willing to put up with undertrained salespeople for such wonderfully insulated windows & doors.
