I had an issue where all the refrigerant had escaped from one of our units. Technician (AJ) came out on time and worked until he had they system running again. They came back out to install remote water and leak sensors in the overflow pans. AJ and Larsons were professional and quick to respond. I would use them again.

I called Larson Air Conditioning to come inspect my duct work. They came out the same day! James Windgrove Jr was great! He checked the duct work, my thermostat and filters and even my AC unit to give me the big picture of all the issues! He was very thorough, checking everything; he is professional and explained everything for me and broke down the repair quotes so I could make plans how to move forward. I appreciated the quick appointment and his inspection work!

Not happy. Tech spent over 6 hours to realize that the compressor was broken and whole unit would need to be replaced. This was after he sold us over $2k worth of materials and cleaning that was of no use when the full replacement of the unit happened a few days later.
Update-Customer service did make this right and credit for the issue.
Install of the replacement system was wonderful. Nick and Zack did a great job with the replacement install. Recommend them.

We bought a new house and wanted to have the AC inspected. Service Tech Damien M. responded. He was friendly, very knowledgeable, and straight forward with what was needed. We never felt like he was upselling anything that wasn’t required. We went with the monthly membership plan because we truly felt like our choice of this company was the right one. He made us feel valued and we hope to have him as our technician in the future.

Techs are incompetent, untimely, and they try to scam their customers. They also don't feel like Arizona laws apply to them.
We had one of their techs out 2 months ago for a check up on our units. He explained everything was in good shape but recommended some cleaning services at what seemed like egregious prices. We declined the cleaning services and went on our way, or so we thought. Afterwords he sent us a random list of services totalling well over 5000 with no context.
Two weeks ago the upstairs blower unit stopped working at 9pm. We called Larsen but they were already closed. It was over 105 degrees out so I had to get up in the attic and see what was going on. After looking at the unit I noticed the tech had left the motor door unsecured and got slightly injured when it fell on my leg. Upon reseating the door and properly securing it the unit started working again.
Last Wednesday both of our units completely stopped cooling air so we again called Larsen first thing on Thursday morning at 7am. We were told a tech would be out soon and only had 1 service call ahead of ours. The tech didn't even show up until almost 1pm when the house was already at 90 degrees. After an hour of troubleshooting he stated both of our capacitors somehow managed to go out at the exact same time. He then quoted us a price of almost 800 dollars while also advising we needed several hundred dollars worth of other completely unrelated repairs while being incredibly condescending and rude to my wife. Both of these units were purchased and still under warranty with Larsen for parts. The tech claimed the parts were only under a partial warranty which supposedly covered 500 dollars of the parts, even though combined the parts were not 500 dollars. We even referred back to the price sheet sent to us 2 months prior by the previous tech which quoted roughly 460 for replacement of both capicators (230 each parts and labor) while indicating they were under parts warranty. So essentially he was trying to overcharge us by about $350.
Once we realized the tech (Reagan) was trying to scam us and substantially over charge us he became argumentative with my wife and incredibly rude. At that point she told him to leave our property asap. He proceeded to spend another hour out back "tinkering" with our units and eventually my wife had to threaten to call the police if he didn't leave. Turns out he had started replacing the part even after he had been asked to stop work and leave.
We then called 3 other reputable companies in the valley and each quoted at least 100 less than Larsen despite not having warranty coverage with these other companies. We obviously went with another company thinking this nightmare is over.
Now they are trying to charge us $120 for a service call where my wife felt threatened, they attempted to vastly overcharge us and not honor their warranty, and waited for service for hours past the time they were expected.
To make matters even worst they are also claiming that they record all customer interactions regardless of where they take place. So they supposedly recorded conversations that took place within my home and bedroom, which is illegal in Arizona. They are claiming their initial tech 2 months ago said the capacitators needed more immediate replacement Which is when they let it slip that they record customers in their homes and private spaces without their knowledge. So either they are lying or blatantly breaking the law.
I will not be paying this service fee or doing business with this company again. Frankly if the owner of Larsen does not contact me with a sincere apology, zero out this nonsense "invoice", and change their policy of recording customers in their private spaces, and provide better training for their techs like Reagan, I'm more than likely going to seek legal counsel.
To the owner of this company if you read these, this level of service is unacceptable. Your most recent techs lack of experience and professionalism is unacceptable And in expect you to make this right.
Frequently Asked Questions About Larson Air Conditioning
How does an air conditioner work?
An air conditioner cools your Arizona home by removing heat from the indoor air and transferring it outside. It does this through a cycle of compression and expansion of a refrigerant, which absorbs heat from indoor air and releases it outside, resulting in cooler air circulating indoors.
What's the importance of cleaning the condenser coil?
Cleaning the condenser coil is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of your AC system. A dirty coil can restrict heat transfer, causing your AC to work harder and consume more energy. Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and lower energy bills.
What's the importance of cleaning the evaporator coil?
Cleaning the evaporator coil helps maintain indoor air quality and cooling efficiency. A dirty coil can reduce cooling capacity, increase energy consumption, and even lead to poor indoor air quality due to reduced moisture removal.
Why is a condensate flush needed?
A condensate flush prevents clogs in the drain line, which can cause water damage and mold growth. It's essential for maintaining the proper functioning of your AC system and avoiding costly repairs.
How often should I schedule maintenance for my HVAC system?
In Scottsdale, Arizona, it's recommended to schedule maintenance for your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system twice per year. Regular maintenance helps ensure the efficiency and reliability of your system, extending its lifespan and preventing potential breakdowns, especially when you need it most.
Typically, homeowners choose to have HVAC maintenance performed in the spring or early summer before the peak cooling season begins. However, scheduling maintenance during the fall is also advisable for those who use heating during the winter months. Regular maintenance includes tasks such as cleaning, tuning, checking for leaks, and ensuring proper airflow. It's a cost-effective way to keep your HVAC system running smoothly and efficiently while avoiding costly repairs down the road.
Keep in mind that some HVAC companies offer maintenance plans that provide scheduled service reminders and additional benefits, such as priority service and discounts on repairs. These plans can help you stay on top of your HVAC system's maintenance needs.
I don't use my heater, does it really need maintenance in Fall?
Yes, it's essential to perform maintenance in the fall, even if you don't use your heater frequently. This ensures that both heating and cooling components are in good shape and, most importantly, in safe operational condition. Regular maintenance helps prevent issues such as carbon monoxide leaks and natural gas leaks, ensuring your HVAC system is ready when needed and avoiding potential problems during the winter months.
How often should an air filter be replaced?
Air filters should typically be replaced in Arizona homes every 30-60 days depending on factors like filter type and household conditions. A clean filter improves indoor air quality and helps your AC system run efficiently.
What is the life expectancy of an AC system?
The life expectancy of an AC system in the Arizona desert climate is around 12-15 years with proper maintenance. Factors such as maintenance, usage, and climate can influence its longevity.
Why do I need my ducts sealed?
Sealing ducts prevents air leaks, ensuring that conditioned air reaches its intended destination efficiently. This helps improve indoor comfort, energy efficiency, and reduces energy bills. Sealed ducts also reduces the amount of dust that gets pulled into the duct system and distributed throughout the home.
What is the purpose of insulation?
Insulation is crucial for regulating indoor temperature. In Scottsdale's hot climate, proper insulation helps keep your home cooler in summer and reduces energy consumption, leading to lower cooling costs.
How much does a service call fee for HVAC repair cost?
In Scottsdale, Arizona, the cost of a service call fee for HVAC repair typically ranges from $79 to $149. This fee covers the technician's travel to your home or business and the diagnostic assessment of your HVAC system. It's important to note that some companies may advertise a "free" service call fee with repairs, or "waived" with approved repair but it's essential to understand that the cost may be incorporated into the repair charges.
The service call fee can vary based on factors such as whether it's during regular hours, after-hours, or on holidays. Additionally, for more complex equipment or intricate problems that require advanced diagnostics, there may be additional costs associated with the diagnostic work.
