  I recently visited Kumagoro in Anchorage and had such a great experience! I ordered the spicy chungpan with shrimp and clams, and for dessert, I tried fried Oreos for the very first time — and wow, I loved it! The cook at the live station was super friendly and fun to chat with, and the service staff were equally welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I’ve been living in Anchorage for over a year and have visited Kumagoro a couple of times. If you’re looking for delicious ramen, soups, and seafood, this place is a big go! Some of my must-try favorites: Kumagoro Roll Kamikaze Roll Spicy Tuna Roll Samurai Roll A fresh salad with tuna that’s definitely worth ordering As a hotelier myself, I really appreciate good hospitality and good food — Kumagoro delivers both. If you’re ever in Anchorage, don’t miss this spot!

  I was welcomed wholeheartedly by the time I went in. They were so friendly, and helpful when I tried to book an uber and had no data and I super duper appreciate them for that. I could see how passionately hands-on the owner was with the restaurant as she interacts with her customers professionally. My experience from her restaurant made me feel like I should make my alaskan trip traditional—I'd be happy to go to Anchorage Alaska yearly! The food was on the expensive side but their food quality and taste is exceptional— and they have bigger serving sizes! It is worth your money, I must say. One of the best Japanese restaurants I have been into💛

  Okay, so I haven’t eaten here for 30 years… when I worked here. LOL 😆. However, this place still had the best Japanese food I’d ever had. I’ve searched far and wide looking for comparable gyoza, kimchi, yakisoba, yakitori, miso soup, chicken curry (the only curry they served, but so delicious), teriyaki, shabu shabu… oh and their green tea ice cream with bean curd. Nowhere has anything close, and I have made diligent efforts. I had to leave Alaska because my mother died suddenly, and my husband (then boyfriend) figured out how to fly my favorite foods to me in Arizona to comfort me in my grief. All Kumagoro. He also loved their seafood soup… can’t remember what it was called… and all their sushi. Anyway, go there and see if it’s still amazing!! Let me know. 🙏

  Great food! The ramen was well seasoned and hot. The rainbow roll was well crafted and tasted very fresh

  I previously gave them 5 stars for a great visit we had this winter but then we went back this month and both of us got terrible food poisoning. We were immediately sick after leaving and had a terrible 12 hours afterwards. I emailed the restaurant to let them know and no response whatsoever. I didn't ask for a refund but just an acknowledgement that they would look into it. But nothing. We paid over $150 for 2 people and paid an even heavier price that night. So disappointed! I hope they take more responsibility for their food handling in the future.
