From the conceptual bid process through completion we were so pleased with the communication of what was needed and all the work as completed including new concrete entry with ADA ramp and railing. Their sub contractor used for masonry work on the project was just as professional and did excellent work. We would recommend Korte Luitjohan for any construction needs. Core-tee and Loot-john. We’re named for our founders.
Is K & L still a family-owned business?
Yes, we are. K & L was founded in 1958 by Cyril “Pete” Korte, who was joined the following year by his brother-in-law, Joe Luitjohan. Upon Pete’s retirement in 2018, his son, Gregg, became president. There are several family members who work in various capacities. But our desire is for everyone who works for us to feel like family.

Does K & L self-perform any of its work?
Yes, we self-perform carpentry, concrete, piping and excavating.
Are water treatment and wastewater treatment plants your specialty?
While we have extensive experience in these areas, K & L’s construction portfolio is diverse, including churches, medical facilities, office buildings, and historic renovations.
Does K & L do single-family residential construction?
No, we do not.
Does K & L only do work in Illinois?
No, we’ve done many projects in the St. Louis area. If you’re on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River, we’d love to talk to you about your project!
What type of special training do you have to perform work in the medical field?
K & L field staff participate in Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) training to understand the procedures for properly performing medical facility construction and renovation tasks.
This training, conducted by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), covers the practical use of ICRA tools including containment, negative air, HEPA filtration, and work practice techniques.
Does K & L stand behind its work?
Absolutely! We provide a 2-year warranty on all self-perform portions of our projects. Additionally, we conduct 11-month and 23-month inspections to make sure you’re happy with our work.
