  Kennelwood Academy has been by far one of the most enriching experiences I have had. Through Kennelwood Academy my knowledge in dog training expanded in ways I could not have imagined. I learned not only the theories and techniques behind dog training but also how to apply those skills in a career. Kennelwood Academy offers a broad yet detailed course delving beyond pet obedience. The Academy also covers retrieves, service and therapy work, agility, tracking, odor detection, competitive obedience and more. The Academy offers comprehensive lessons on business structure, strategy and development. The Academy also helps students look for jobs and opportunities outside of the academy. Allowing students to leave the Academy confident in their future. Dave Van Garderen, Jeremy Ciepluch and Megan Ciepluch have been such wonderful instructors. They truly believe in their students and are such a supportive and inspiring team. They are always willing to help each student break down problems and build solutions and strategies. I will be forever grateful for the experiences and opportunities I’ve received at Kennelwood Academy and look forward to applying what I’ve learned in my career.

  Enrolling in Kennelwood Academy was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made—not just for my career, but for my personal growth. What truly sets this program apart is the individualized attention each student receives. Dave and Jeremy take the time to understand your learning style, and areas for growth, tailoring their approach to help you thrive. They’re not just knowledgeable—they’re passionate, patient, and genuinely committed to your success as a professional dog trainer. One of the most valuable aspects of the program was the real-world experience. From attending live training sessions and visiting training facilities, to shadowing professional trainers and working hands-on with dogs of all breeds and temperaments, the exposure was unmatched. That kind of immersive, practical training is what truly distinguishes Kennelwood from other dog training schools. Thanks to the incredible guidance from Dave and Jeremy, my experience at Kennelwood gave me the confidence and skills to grow and succeed in the field. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made—for both my career and personal development. I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone aspiring to become a professional dog trainer.

  Since coming to Kennelwood Academy as part of their January 2025 class, I've gained invaluable knowledge that has helped kickstart my career and given me the confidence to make my foray into this industry. The proven methods practiced by the academy have completely revolutionized the way I handle dogs, providing me with the ability to take a more empathetic approach to both teaching and problem solving. This is due entirely to how exceedingly helpful the two main instructors, Dave and Jeremy, have been. It's clear that this isn't just a job for them, but a passion. They go above and beyond for each and every student. Both Jeremy and Dave can be found at the academy well after hours providing extra instruction and guidance to students with willingness and patience. If you're looking for the best and most well rounded education that can be provided by a school, I could not recommend Kennelwood Academy more.

  I attended Kennelwood’s July 2024 class, and then interned at the academy for the January 2025 class. Before coming to the academy, I was a self-taught professional working at a training facility in Texas. If you want to be a professional dog trainer, you need to hone your skills by working directly with dogs and people which is exactly what Kennelwood provides. No amount of book knowledge will ever teach you how to use a leash or handle client expectations. I cannot recommend Kennelwood enough for aspiring trainers preparing for their careers. The curriculum provides extensive opportunities to shadow professional dog trainers, work client dogs, and even participate in lessons with the clients. What I love about Kennelwood is that you’re given the tools to build a training program for any type of working or competition dog, as well as family pets. I’ve accomplished so much more with my own dogs than I would have ever dreamed of before coming to Kennelwood. The housing is also very nice here, and the campus kind of has a cute summer camp vibe which I think the students really appreciate. There’s 24/7 access to the training facilities themselves which is super helpful if you’re more of a late night or early morning type of trainer. As a class we go on field trips, participate in working sessions, have meaningful discussion and lecture time, and there’s enough one-on-one mentorship from the instructors to go around. You also get to come to the protection club that trains on campus if you’d like, which is a great opportunity to watch protection training at a variety of stages which I found really helpful to see while raising a protection prospect. Dave and Jeremy are also really nice and supportive, they always give the impression that they’re invested in you. I also appreciate that you leave the academy as part of a network of very experienced and educated trainers - Kennelwood is a launching pad for young dog trainers to get connected and get jobs. They also provide a lot of support towards the end of the program in helping you find your next step in your career, and they’re more than willing to give guidance even beyond your time at the academy. I cannot recommend Kennelwood enough!

  I highly recommend Kennelwood Academy to anyone interested in pursuing a career in dog training—whether you're just starting out or already have experience in the field. During your time here, you'll gain hands-on experience in a wide range of dog training techniques and approaches. But what sets Kennelwood apart is that it's not just about working with dogs; it's also about developing the skills you need to succeed professionally. Dave and Jeremy also teach students how to navigate the job market and build confidence when working with the time comes to work with clients. What made the program meaningful for me was the opportunity to grow and learn as an individual, particularly as someone who had just graduated from high school. Kennelwood Academy doesn’t just give you an education—it gives you a start on a foundation. Not leaving here with a certificate but also with lifelong connections, not only with your instructors but also with your classmates, creating a strong, supportive network that continues well beyond your time in the program.
