The reconstructed tabernacle has been removed. A visitors’ center on site includes exhibits, historical artifacts, and a film about the Mormon Battalion, whose members enlisted about 10 miles south of the tabernacle.
Great visitor center with very kind missionaries there to tell the story of Kanesville. The story of the pioneers that settled there

In August 2025, we visited the Kanesville Memorial in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This facility is owned and operated by the LDS Church, and several important LDS history events happened here. The Mormon Battalion started here, Oliver Cowdery returned to the LDS Church, and Brigham Young was sustained as the new prophet with a new First Presidency. The garden and landscaping are amazing and the visitor center building is well-maintained and has great displays. There are senior LDS Missionary couples who can answer questions and explain the LDS historical events. Kanesville Memorial was a great place to visit, and there is no admission price.

I have always wanted to go see this pivotal place where Oliver cowdery returned to the warm embrace of his friends. That was a sweet experience!
I also learned a lot more in the process, including about the Mormon Battalion and the reorganization of the First Presidency. It was neat to come to know more about several early Saints and leaders of Christ's restored Church.
