We became a customer of JK during the coldest week of the year in December 2024 when our furnace decided to stop running. The tech who showed up that night at 8:00PM did not leave until late in the night, and could not fix it. The next day I received a call that a different technician, who I will call the “hit man” spent over an hour disassembling and examining the heat exchanger to a point that he could take pictures of small pin holes in the heat exchanger to confirm that our furnace was unsafe.
Fair enough. I said ok, lets replace the furnace. I choked on the price ($12,000) , but we were not in a position to argue or shop. We went ahead with the install. Two techs showed up to install the furnace, had great personalities, and did what we thought was a great job! Glowing reviews and all!
Fast forward to August 2025. Our AC had stopped working, and we did not know what had happened. What did we do….we called Jerry Kelly. We were told that it was a catastrophic failure of the compressor. When I asked what our options would be, I was told that the unit was R22 Freon which had been discontinued for some time, and could not be repaired. What will a new system cost us? Response “Not exactly sure, but around $15,000.00”. That would have been an investment within 8 months of $27,000.00! For a 2700sq ft house…….. I instructed the tech to leave my home as I was insulted by the price, and that I was going to shop with other providers. He said there was a “senior tech” (cant remember his title) but upon his arrival, it was clear he was the “closer”. After listening to a long song and dance, I asked them both to leave. As I was walking them out, they were selling me the entire time. At this point I was done with JK. It is not about the service anymore, its about sales and getting the highest price they possibly can, “striking while we are at our weakest”. I am all about a business being profitable, but continue reading to understand my point.
I began my search for a new contractor, and purchased several portable AC units for the bedrooms (remember it was over 100 degrees this entire time, went out on a Thursday and installed new on the next Wednesday). Total cost for new brand name AC system $7,000.00!! After install, on that Friday, I came home from work to find our thermostat at 72 and the temp in the house at 76. (Exactly what I came home too the day the system failed the first time!) I freaked out, ran outside to see if the condensing unit was even running, and found the entire system covered in Ice! The entire system froze. I immediately called the contractor, who asked me to turn it off and leave it off until he could come and inspect everything. This was the Friday of Labor day weekend, he was already out of town and would be back to check it out on Monday. He showed up on Monday, and when I got home I found him laying in front of our “brand new furnace”, cover off, with schematics of the circuit board reviewing something. I said, “what the hell is going on?” He said, I think your furnace was wired wrong!!! He continued that the fan is set on the low setting, which is not enough air to move the cold air over the coils and it freezes. He continued his research, and then rewired the circuit board. He enabled the furnace blower again, and after a few seconds, the blower fan roared to life! I could now feel cool air holding my hand 4’ above the vents on the first floor. It is now September 9th, and the new AC is working flawlessly and much better than before.
To finish my “open letter” I will close with this; while I cannot prove it, I believe the same thing happened to my first condensing unit. I came home to the same event, set temperature at 72 with thermostat reading 77. Shortly after arriving home it stopped working. BECAUSE THE FURNACE WAS WIRED INCORRECTLY RELATED TO THE BLOWER CONTROL OF THE AC!! So not only did JK try to fleece me for an additional $8K, it is the probable culprit in the original Compressor failure……..it froze up and blew up.
NEVER AGAIN JERRY KELLY…..NEVER.
