I moved to Grand Junction in June of 2024. I left most of my living room furniture behind, but the pieces I took with me – inherited Stickley curio cabinet and sideboard, a Vermont Furniture Design console – required new companions. Big Box store furniture wouldn’t hack it. I started looking around, and in my travels found Holman House.
In the showroom I made the mistake of sitting in a Stressless recliner. It was the most comfortable rabbit hole I even went down. Had to have one, so I ordered it.
Yvette kindly offered to come to my house and check out the space – the Great Room – that I planned to furnish. She has great style sense coupled with the unusual ability to get inside her client’s head, see the space from his perspective, without imposing her own tastes. She made several suggestions that I immediately implemented.
I eventually ordered a Stressless sofa and ottoman, as well as an entertainment center and bookcase from another manufacturer. Quality furniture takes time to build, I knew I was in for a wait. The recliner arrived as expected. Unfortunately the rest took much longer than anticipated.
Not Holman House’s fault, unless they have some secret ability to control the weather – Hurricane Helene deposited three feet of water in Stressless’s North Carolina factory, necessitating what turned out to be a four month delay. The entertainment center and bookcase encountered some type of accident en route from Ohio and had to be sent back for replacement. Yvette and David proactively informed me of what happened and what they were doing about it, keeping me in the loop. I appreciated their integrity and dedication to quality – no way were they going to deliver damaged or poorly manufactured furniture to a client.
Eventually it all came together – Holman House’s delivery crew was prompt, respectful and very careful both with the delivered furniture and my existing furnishings. The final piece was an area rug. It’s not easy imaging how an 8x10 foot rug will look from a much smaller sample, but I took Yvette’s advice and selected the one she thought might work best. It was perfect!
Yes, there was some bumps along the way, but I love the way the space turned out, definitely me. It was well worth the wait.
