I've been going to this restaurant for years, and have followed the owner from his time at Everest Cuisine to his opening of this restaurant (have probably been eating food from restaurants of his regularly since 2015). This is easily, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Rapid City, by a mile. I now live on the East Coast, and travel quite a bit for work -- always trying different Indian and Nepalese restaurants everywhere I go. I've still never found sweet naan, momo, korma, or chai as good as what I get from Himalayan in Rapid! Bonus: the quality of the food has never changed in the last decade. I make a point to eat here multiple times when I come back home for the holidays or to visit; it is comfort food that is warming and feels like home. The owner and staff are amazing and show a kindness and hospitality that is hard to find these days! They will forever get mine and my family's business. I love this restaurant so much it is deserving of a long, glowing review <3

Tried the samosa and masala chai here which was just average. The masala chai was very bland, no flavor of ginger. The filling inside of samosas was very dry and crumble out. Daal makhni and naan were good though.
Everything was great at this restaurant. The owner recommended chilli chicken which was not on the menu but it was definitely worth it. Loved the chai as well! The atmosphere quiet and peaceful and the restaurant was very clean. The staff was polite and welcoming.

Himalayan Kitchen is, in my opinion, one of the best resturants in Rapid City. Their food is authentically Himalayan. Similar to Indian cuisine. So watch out on the level of spiciness you select! Regaurdless if you get the tikka masala, saag, biryani, ect., the flavors really pop. I have not had a single bad dish in the many times I have enjoyed this establishment. A local favorite is the lamb curry and I can personally vouch that their lamb preparation is excellent. Don't forget to get an order of garlic basil or cheese naan to help gather up the extra sauces. The price vs quality is great here too. Not the cheapest meal you can get, but well worth splurging on. Dining in, you are treated to a calm, clean environment full of art and decor that sets an exotic mood. The best part, however, is the quality of service provided. The staff at Himalayan Kitchen treat you with kindness and respect. They make you feel like a welcome guest and are appreciative that you choose to spend your money and time at their restaurant. Sadly, that is a rare experience for me lately but Himalayan Kitchen really shines in this department.
I ordered the tandoori mixed grill...extremely spicy. The portions of chicken were very nominal, no steak, 1or 2 very small shrimp. Wish I had taken a photo. Providing lentil soup & rice to compensate for that was a really bad idea. Chicken is really inexpensive. Pretty outrageous for $25
From now on, I will stick with my own bbq tandoori style Chicken(tastes better too). Gave them 2 stars cause the heavy spicing was as ordered.
