If you have attic space and are handy at all brand new flexible ducts or about $25 and are very easy to replace this seems like a waste of money
Frequently Asked Questions About Healthy Air Duct Cleaning & Mold Remediation
Is there a charge for the Estimate?
We typically offer free estimates. However, for homes located more than 60 miles away, a trip charge may apply, which we'll agree upon beforehand. Homes with more than two HVAC systems are usually exempt from any estimate fees.
Why should I get my Air Ducts cleaned?
Homeowners typically choose to clean their HVAC ducts for two main reasons:
1) Noticing visible dust and debris around ceiling vents
2) Addressing potential health concerns, especially if a doctor suggests duct cleaning as a way to improve indoor air quality for someone experiencing persistent illness.
How much does it cost to get my Air Ducts cleaned?
For homes under 2000 sq. ft., duct cleaning typically ranges from $1,000 to $1,400 per HVAC unit, with 8-12 ducts, depending on the size of the plenum or trunk line. Many systems benefit from a fungicide or encapsulant treatment to prevent microbial growth, adding $300 to $1,000 to the cost, based on coverage needed. Homes with multiple units will receive a customized evaluation, and additional costs will apply accordingly.
How often should I get my Air Ducts cleaned?
HVAC ducts typically need cleaning every 5-7 years, depending on factors like filter quality and maintenance habits that affect contaminant buildup. Professional cleaning by a NADCA member, combined with proper maintenance, can extend the cleaning interval to 10 years or longer.
How long is the cleaning process, and do I have to leave my home during the cleaning?
You can stay in your home during the duct cleaning process. However, the HVAC system will be temporarily turned off, which may cause some discomfort. The cleaning typically takes 4-6 hours per system with a crew of three technicians, making it a one-day job for most homes. For homes with multiple units, we may send a larger team of 3-5 technicians to ensure the cleaning is completed efficiently and your A/C is back up and running the same day.
Are there any other parts of the A/C system cleaned besides the ducts?
Our comprehensive A/C system cleaning covers everything from the filter grill to the air supply vents in each room. This includes removing dust, debris, and contaminants from all supply and return ductwork, performing a Type 1 cleaning of the evaporator coil (more extensive cleaning may require an HVAC contractor), and cleaning the blower motor and grills. We also treat drop boxes, plenums, trunk lines, returns, and any necessary insulation with Fosters 40/20 Fungicidal Protective Coating to prevent microbial growth.
