The vision of our 501(c3) nonprofit organization is that ALL people have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential through the power of work.Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee is based in Nashville, Tenn. The agency serves 48 counties throughout Middle and West Tennessee, operating 30 retail stores and two outlet stores, about 53 Donation Express Centers and 13 Career Solutions Centers. The nonprofit is one of Tennessee’s largest employers of people with disabilities with more than 45 percent of our workforce reporting some type of disability or disadvantage. Although affiliated with Goodwill Industries International in Rockville, Md., we operate independently through our own governing board of directors. Goodwill accepts gently-used items that donors no longer want, need or use. Those items are sold either in our retail stores or online at onlinegoodwill.com. Revenue from the sale of donated goods helps fund job training services and programs provided by Goodwill Career Solutions. In addition to retail sales, Goodwill depends on several other revenue sources, including state and local grants.

I know how inflated the CEO's salary of Goodwill is. But I went in, bought some items and found you don't get a plastic bag anymore to carry your purchases in. You must buy one! Never again. I will patronize Thriftsmart instead. They donate all profits to various charities.

THE PRICES HAVE BECOME UNREAL! $12.99 for many of the purses and things are just not priced FAIRLY at all. It's fun to find a unique nicknack or what have you. Almost always 1 cashier. I'm just totally frustrated and disappointed with GOODWILL.

I’m extremely disappointed with the way I was treated at the Goodwill in Brentwood. I was shopping with my young son, who began crying—something completely normal for a child especially a 3 year old. Instead of offering any patience or understanding, a staff member approached us and made it clear we were no longer welcome in the store. I was then told I would be escorted out, which was completely unnecessary and humiliating. The question is was this because of my son crying or was this removal racially motivated since we were only brown individuals in the store? I understand that businesses want to maintain a certain environment, but treating a parent and child this way is unacceptable and lacks basic compassion. There was no aggression or disturbance beyond a child expressing himself—something that happens in public spaces all the time. I left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. I hope management takes this as a serious call for better training in handling families and customer service with dignity and professionalism.
