Came to Ghost Donkey after work on a Wednesday with some of my colleagues as we were all in the office today. The staff was very accommodating and got us all seated at the bar. I ordered from the happy hour menu: 4 carne asada tacos with salsa verde, guac and chips and 2 stealth margaritas. The food was really good and I love that the margaritas were frozen! I will definitely be back!

TL;DR: We received poor service and wouldn’t recommend coming here. Based on our experience, there were several issues with communication and billing that made us feel like our waitress was trying to take advantage of us and the automatic gratuity. We had a reservation for six people for happy hour, which was listed from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on both the website and the physical menus, at 5:45. The rest of our party arrived and started ordering around 6:05, when our waitress informed us that happy hour had ended at 6:00 and that the menu was now full price. We mentioned that this was inconsistent with both the website and menu in front of us, in which she said the menus were outdated. (🚩first red flag) However, around 6:25 or 6:26, another waitress came by and asked if we wanted to place an order before happy hour ended. We were confused since we were told it ended at 6:00, but clarified with this waitress to make sure our other items were at happy hour pricing and placed additional orders. This second waitress indicated she was not sure why we our waitress told us otherwise. (🚩second red flag) After eating and drinking, we waited a long time for our check with our waitress nowhere in sign. The restaurant was not busy at this point, so we eventually went to the bar to ask for it. After paying, our original waitress returned and said there had been an issue, that we paid the wrong tab, and that we needed to be refunded and charged again. (🚩third red flag) Upon reviewing the new corrected tab, it appeared that several items were listed at full price instead of the happy hour price, which contradicted what we had been told earlier. We explained that another staff member had taken our order before 6:30, and after reviewing with a manager, the items were corrected. During this process, our server was unprofessional and argumentative. She appeared to have said something along the lines of “they just don’t want to tip” before storming off. We were aware of the automatic 20% gratuity for parties of six or more, but it felt like that might have contributed to the lack of customer service since we had to repeatedly flag others down just to get help. As someone who has worked in customer service, this service felt unwelcoming, unprofessional, and inattentive (contrary to the Mexican hospitality stated on the website).

I was really looking forward to coming to this place for happy hour with my friends however this experience was a night to remember for the WRONG reasons. TLDR this was NOT a good experience. My friends and I came at 5:45pm to catch the happy hour before it ends at 6:30 pm. 3 of my friends were able to order off of the happy hour menu while we were waiting for the other half of our group to come. 3 of my other friends came in at 6:05 pm and ordered a marg for happy hour however our waitress said that happy hour ends at 6pm which is quite INTERESTING because on the website and the physical menu it says it ends at 6:30. We kindly asked her about when the happy hour is actually finishing because there was a discrepancy between what she told us vs what's on the menu in front of us and the website. But she insisted it ended at 6pm and that the menu was outdated. Regardless we still ordered more drinks and food at full price. 5 minutes before the happy hour ends a different waitress comes and asked us if we wanted to order before happy hour ends. Our group was confused since we were told it ended. We asked her if she can check if the food and drinks we just put in were discounted and she said she would double check. Fast forward, we waited at least 10-15 minutes for our check. Server no where to be found and one of us went to the bar to ask for our check. We received the check and paid and waited for the printed receipt. While we thought we were done and ready to leave our waitress spawns in and says there was an error with our payment. This was more complicated than it needed to be. The second receipt we noticed that a couple of our items were full price which is sooooooo interesting. We asked them if they could adjust the price and the waiter has the audacity to gaslight us saying we ordered after happy hour. We said oh we were told 2 different things by staff between when the time truly ends. She says you guys ordered those items after happy hour after 6:30pm. Frankly, girl you told us 6pm and now you're lying and gaslighting 6 people in front of your manager saying we ordered after 6:30. We respectfully told her that it was not true and we ordered before 6:30. Then she gives us a dirty look and says I can pull the time stamps. I have no problem with that but she didn't and walks away and says under her breath "they just don't want to tip" Please money is not an issue with this group but with service so atrocious we are not paying beyond the included gratuity. Whoever reads this sorry for the whole essay, but in case you couldn't tell this was the opposite of a happy hour.

Came for happy hour and was really excited. We arrived around 5:45pm and was told that happy hour was over even though the menu said 6:30??? We were happy to pay full price since we wanted to drink, but at some point another waitress came up and told us that we actually had happy hour after all. One person from our party ended up coming around 6:20 and was given a snark remark and laughed at. We ordered all our food besides one drink before 6:30, and our waitress basically ghosted us and we had to ask for our check from a different person. When we got our bill there were a few items not accounted for in happy hour and when we complained we were given an attitude from our waitress (the one who told us happy hour ended at 6) and she told her manager that we ordered a few items after happy hour ended and had receipts to prove it. The manger was very kind and helped us out but the waitress continued to give us attitude and got upset when we didn’t tip even though we were going to. Very disappointed and the food was honestly mid.

The service at the bar itself was fine and the drinks were made well, although I will say that the vibe makes the bar feel like more of a place you would pregame at. My main reason for providing an overall rating of three was due to my experience upon entering the bar. There was a man standing outside who I assumed was there to card me, but nope, this was incorrect. He was there to check my reservation and I gave him the name the reservation was under, but he refused to let me in because I couldn't provide him with a screenshot of the reservation (someone else in my party made the reservation). In addition, I never actually got carded at this bar. It seems odd to care so much about a reservation and not care at all about seeing my ID. I would recommend other bars over this one.
