I had a very disappointing first (and last) visit to this Freed’s Bakery location in downtown Las Vegas.
My husband and I came in hoping to try the Rugelach, which is hard to find in Las Vegas. There were two women already being helped, so we waited patiently. Strangely, it was the other customers—not the staff—who acknowledged us and told us we could go ahead. The girl at the counter (heavier set, dark brown hair, glasses) never greeted us, never offered to help, and continued speaking to the women as if we weren’t there.
We eventually picked up a box of Rugelach and stood off to the side, waiting for service. Even after the women left, the girl at the counter never came over, never acknowledged us, and never invited us to the register. My husband had to awkwardly approach her and say we wanted to purchase the box and a popsicle. Her response was dismissive: “You can get whatever you want.” Still, she didn’t move to help us check out.
Finally, a blonde woman with glasses came from the back. She did bag our items and offer napkins, and was kind. The brunette went to the back returned and pulled out her phone, and started scrolling as if that was more important than helping customers.
The entire interaction was marked by rudeness and a complete lack of professionalism. Based on what I’ve read in other recent reviews, this seems to be an ongoing issue with the same staff member. Since she’s clearly still there, it feels like management either doesn’t care or she may be connected to ownership.
According to the comments, Freed’s may have a good reputation elsewhere, but I won’t be returning to this location. If you’re hoping for friendly service, I’d recommend a different bakery altogether. Someone else mentioned that the Decatur location has better service.

Stepping into The Cookie Shop is a familiar ritual for my family and me on our monthly visits to Las Vegas. We’ve always been drawn to its reputation as a haven for those with a sweet tooth, and we’ve consistently found something to enjoy. However, our most recent visit to the downtown location was a mixed bag, a tale of two halves that left us with a complex and somewhat conflicting impression.
The Atmosphere and The Product
The moment we walked through the door, the inviting aroma of freshly baked goods embraced us. The store itself was bright and clean, with a cheerful ambiance that immediately put us at ease. The woman at the front counter was exceptionally friendly, greeting us with a warm smile and a welcoming attitude that made us feel right at home. This initial interaction was a fantastic start, setting a positive tone for our visit.
And indeed, the star of the show, the cookies themselves, lived up to their five-star reputation. We ordered a variety of them and each one was a delight. They were perfectly baked with a tender, chewy center and just the right amount of crispness around the edges. Their flavor profiles were rich and well-balanced, a testament to the shop's expertise in creating truly delicious confections.
The Service and The Verdict
Unfortunately, as the visit progressed, the experience took a downturn. When it was time to order, the staff seemed oblivious to our presence, even after a considerable wait in line. It was frustrating to feel ignored, especially when the queue was not overly long. When we finally did get a server's attention, the interaction was less than stellar. I asked for recommendations on their macarons, but the server admitted she had never tried them and couldn't offer any suggestions. This lack of product knowledge was surprising and unhelpful, leaving me to make my selections blindly.
The macarons themselves were a letdown. Unlike the stellar cookies, they were not particularly pleasing, and the tiramisu cake we tried was merely decent, lacking the "wow" factor we had hoped for. It was a stark contrast to the wonderful cookies and friendly greeter. The lack of attentiveness from the staff, combined with the mediocre quality of the secondary products, significantly detracted from our overall experience.
Ultimately, The Cookie Shop presents a dichotomy. The cookies are undeniably a five-star treat, and the initial greeting was a perfect example of what great service can be. However, the subsequent inattentiveness and lack of product knowledge from the staff, along with some underwhelming items on the menu, brought the overall experience down to a one-star level.
Would I recommend The Cookie Shop? Yes, but with a strong caveat. Go for the cookies, as they are a true highlight and worth the trip alone. Be prepared, however, for potentially inconsistent service and stick to their main specialty to avoid disappointment. It is a place for the true cookie connoisseur, but perhaps not for those seeking a flawless all-around dessert experience.

The pastries looked beautiful and reminded me of the delicious baked goods I grew up with. Unfortunately, my experience with the service was disappointing. The young woman who helped me was rude, even after I left a tip. When I politely asked for a bag for my pastries, she tossed it at me instead of handing it over. Because of that interaction, I’d be hesitant to return to this location despite how good the bakery items looked.

How does shipping work?
Please keep in mind the date of shipping selected at checkout will be the date the items ordered willleavethe bakery, not arrive at their destination.
Because of the fragile nature of our cookies, some breakage may occur during transport but will not affect the taste and quality of our treats! We highly discourage shipping cookies via ground during the summer months or once temperatures have reached 80+ degrees as chocolate will melt and the cookies will not arrive in good shape. If you're one of those folks that doesn't mind getting a melty mess (still tastes great!) you can confirm that you'd still like to receive the cookies via ground in the special instructions, but please keep in mind we won't be responsible for the messy state of the cookies 😬.
We always do our best to ship any order as quickly as possible. Generally the earliest orders are able to be shipped is the next business day as they are received. Please be aware, this processing time is not reflected in shipping options. Please choose the appropriate shipping rate and date of shipping to assure your treats arrive within your desired time frame.
Please keep in mind we are unable to ship/deliver to P.O. Boxes.
Shipping times are estimated and not guaranteed by Freed's Bakery as they are not guaranteed by FedEx, USPS, or UPS. By selecting shipping/delivery you are agreeing to these terms.
Because cakes ordered for shipping are made fresh before being frozen they require at least 24 hours notice before their ship date. Please be aware, this processing time is not reflected in shipping options. To avoid your order sitting in a shipping warehouse over the weekend, we do not ship cakes on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or the day before or on national holidays.
