I had a disappointing experience with Fitness World and want to share a few things for others to be aware of.
After cancelling my membership, I was told there’s a 30-day notice period, meaning you still have to pay for the next 30 days even after cancellation. On top of that, they charged me $62 for an annual fee after I had already cancelled my membership, which feels completely unreasonable.
Also, if you ever try to downgrade your plan, they charge an extra $30 fee. While these charges might be buried somewhere in their policy, the overall experience feels misleading and unfair.
The gym itself is often overcrowded, and during peak hours, it’s hard to even find an available treadmill. Considering the hidden fees, unclear policies, and overcrowding, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a gym that values transparency and customer satisfaction.

My experience started off nice. But then I went to go either freeze or cancel my month to month account because I was going travelling. The girl suggested I just freeze it as it won't cost me anything while I'm away. Yet over the period of 3 months I was charged over $150 in random fees. I asked for a refund given what the staff had told me, and they said they couldn't do it. I've worked for many gyms before including GoodLife fitness and this would have never flown anywhere else.
With that being said, they also ripped off my boyfriend giving him the most expensive monthly option without letting him know of the other options. He left feeling totally ripped off after another trainer had mentioned another option afterwards.
So, while the machines are great, be prepared to get ripped off. Cheers!
I love going to fitness world, but this location has a few quirks. First of all, the crowd there is usually a lot of arrogant kids in the afternoons. So be prepared for that. The staff, don’t seem to care much here about anything other than being a personal trainer, so they are not the friendliest. Lots of the machines are constantly out of order or missing the pins for changing the weights. And the massage machines constantly don’t work. I even had it once kick me off while I was only 5 minutes in because someone else wanted on… I mean come on people! The positives are that they have some more unique machines that I don’t find in other fitness worlds, and although it isn’t the biggest gym, they do have it separated decently.

Manager soliciting 5 star reviews from friends is not an accurate description of the gym
I had banking issues but Fitness World decided to pass the fee to me despite not being late.
I explain it wasn't my fault but the manager insisted it was all my fault. Literally in those words. I said I would cancel and the manager said "that's fine". Not a good look to lose a 10 year member over $10.
Overall nice gym but customer service is horrible.
Edit: In response to the GM
Since we are bringing transparency into it, I'll share my story.
My banking issue was not even an issue. My card expired and the bank sent me a new card. Never would I think that the first thing I should do is check in with Fitness World and make sure my payments go through when it never affected ANY of my automatic payments elsewhere. Because you hold my banking information.
To my shock payments were late because I always have money in my account. I check and find out the reason. You debit my card directly. As soon as I found out I went to Fitness World Burnaby to have it corrected. To my surprise I have a late fee. In my mind I was not late. It was a technical issue. But you insisted and literally said to me it was "technically your fault". Anyone in customer service knows you don't tell a customer it's their fault. There was no acknowledgement that I was clearly frustrated and you seemed very happy and unapologetic about it. Instead you kept blame passing. Then insisted I download the app which I do not want and have no reason to have.
Due to my frustatration I said I would cancel in which you replied "that's fine with us". Again, not something you tell a customer.
After all that you offered a credit for $10. If you had any sense of good faith you would have offered that first and been apologetic about the inconvenience of the situation. Instead I felt there was an ego in you to win an argument and to drill home the point it was my fault. Even your response seemed unapologetic and your "transparency" is still to pass the blame.
If you want to improve the first rule of customer service is treat a customer right and I did not have any of that. So maybe use that as tool to improve
Thank you

Fitness World is such a great place to stay active, and I especially love The Works classes ! They’re always fun, high-energy, and give me an amazing full-body workout. A big shoutout to Angel Herrera at Austin branch, who is truly an outstanding instructor. Angel brings so much positivity, motivation, and knowledge to every class. He keeps the energy up, makes everyone feel welcome, and pushes us to do our best while still making it enjoyable. Thanks to Angel and the supportive environment here, I always leave feeling stronger and more energized. Highly recommend!
