I’m writing to express my deep concern and disappointment following an upsetting experience at this Dunkin’ Donuts location on June 18, 2025.
I placed a drive-thru order totaling $15.78, paid by card, and proceeded to the window. I was initially greeted by a polite young man who provided part of my order. While waiting for the remainder, I complimented his chain and asked to take a photo of it, which he agreed to.
However, another individual behind the counter, who appeared to be a manager or part of the store leadership, made a sarcastic remark to the employee about the drive-thru timer reaching 10 minutes. He suggested that if the employee wanted to keep talking to me, he should take a break. The comment was unnecessary and inappropriate, especially since I was still waiting on my order.
When I addressed the comment and suggested the conversation be handled after I left, the man became defensive and informed me that it was “none of my business” and that he "didn't work for Dunkin’." His tone quickly became unprofessional. I calmly requested a refund due to the uncomfortable and escalating interaction.
The young man who had originally helped me attempted to process the refund but explained that the store had not handled one before and he needed assistance. Throughout this, the other man continued to be dismissive—repeatedly closing the drive-thru window in my face and refusing to give his name or title. He also instructed the staff not to speak to me.
Eventually, after asking again for his name and role so I could file a complaint with Dunkin’ corporate, he told me to “Google it.” Shortly afterward, he appeared outside near my vehicle and, when I asked for his name again, he threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave—even though I had done nothing wrong. He also took a photo of my license plate.
A few minutes later, another Dunkin’ employee arrived. I asked her for the man’s name, and she quietly informed me his name was Steve. When I again asked for his title, he told her not to speak to me. I left, recognizing I would not get any resolution on-site.
Shockingly, within about five minutes of leaving, I received a call from the St. Lucie Police Department informing me that I had been trespassed from this location. I’ve been a customer at this Dunkin’ since 2018, and I was both surprised and disturbed by how quickly and aggressively the situation escalated. I was later informed that “Steve” is affiliated with the management company that owns multiple businesses in the area, including other Dunkin' locations.
This entire experience left me feeling disrespected, humiliated, and potentially discriminated against. I am a Black customer who did not raise my voice or act aggressively in any way. Meanwhile, the individual in question—who is white—was able to intimidate employees and make decisions about my presence without any accountability or transparency. The staff appeared more fearful of him than interested in resolving my concerns.
Additionally, I was not provided a full refund at the time and had to dispute the charge through Cash App. Thankfully, I have since received the refund.
I sincerely hope that this review is taken seriously by Dunkin’ leadership and by the management company involved. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of race or background. No one should be made to feel targeted or powerless while simply trying to order food and resolve an issue professionally.
