Very disappointing utility. Though we have had numerous outages, we only applied 1 time for the pathetic $25 credit when our power was out for 5 days!! Not that I truly believed they would ever pay, which they didn't. We spent over $150 in gas for a generator; were without power mode than 120 hours & it did impact over 10% of the company's customers!!! However, they still say it doesn't qualify. Of course it doesn't!! I'm sure they rarely actually give the credit. So why they give customers the criteria for the credit, tell the customers they met the criteria but won't give the credit!! HIPPOCRATES!!! That's our government for ya!!!! Pathetic, greedy, hippocrates!!!

Since August 31st, DTE has owed me a credit of well over $200. I called the credit department on 3 different occasions spending hours on the phone with the reassurance that it has been corrected. I sent a detailed account including copies of all billing statements. Highlighted the errors that DTE made just to reiterate the info of all our conversations. Then I just this month received another bill. I ended up speaking with Brenda in the credit department whom assured me I would receive a check in about a month. I received my final bill & paid it for the period August 31st. I am disabled though was a CPA. You can’t even do simple math.
Before I go into my negative experience I'll offer a solution to solve a lot of your problems... communication. They just need to quit hiding behind the "we're a big company" excuse and make sure that each customer is assigned to a specific employee or team of employees that can be held responsible for making sure their customers are being taken care of properly and not just being lost in the cluster of a "system" they have. DTE is a NIGHTMERE to deal with as far as billing goes. VERY disorganized, the communication is absolutely terrible, and they just pass you around from one inadept employee to the next until you're so frustrated you just want to hang up and pay for the bill they "estimated" 6 times in a row because they're too lazy to open a gate and go in your backyard. My bill was on hold and I was in an "investigation" for 3 months while they tried to figure out why they had been overcharging me $175 a month for half a year. They scheduled a technician to come to my home on 3 separate occasions with an absolutely unreasonable time window of 8:30-4:30 and nobody showed up any of the times... with no call. (Back to communication) After literally 25 calls from me and being passed around with no answers at all every single time, they finally found out that my allegations against them were true and they credited my account. If they had any competitors at all I would be long gone from this company. I feel the lack of competition allows them to treat their customers with such laziness and disregard.
