Had an outstanding stay at LA Proper Hotel ! Highly recommend LA Proper Hotel for a luxurious, seamless stay in downtown Los Angeles
The check-in process was smooth and welcoming, making a great first impression. The property blends cozy warmth with contemporary style, making for a truly inviting and modern ambiance. The room was spacious and comfortable, and as an added perk, I received an upgrade through booking with the American Express Hotel Collection—which allowed for early check-in and late checkout options, making the experience even better.
What truly stood out were the hotel's excellent dining options; both on-property restaurants offered memorable meals that made my stay even more special. All staff interactions were friendly, genuine, and professional, enhancing the overall sense of hospitality and care.
Absolutely loved our stay at Downtown LA Proper Hotel.
From the front desk and doormen to the restaurant staff, everyone was genuinely welcoming and professional. Both on-site restaurants made us feel like we were back on the East Coast — a bit old-fashioned in the best way, with great design and incredible food.
Our room was surprisingly quiet, a rare find in DTLA, and the rooftop gets lively at night, adding to the charm. We’re pretty picky about food, but both restaurants here honestly exceeded our expectations — every dish was excellent.
Didn’t get a chance to enter the pool (tiny but cute), but everything else was spot-on. Parking next door is about $30 overnight, right beside the valet and feels safe.
Huge shout-out to the entire Proper Hotel crew — thank you for such a memorable stay.
I truly love staying here and will definitely be back.
Hot water was not working on the day of arrival. While it did ruin plans to go out for my birthday, they did fix it the next morning and also gave a partial refund. Overall, the hotel is fine but no where near 5 star. For an American perspective, it’s below Hyatt/Marriott. For international guests especially Europeans it’s essentially a 3 star hotel you’d find in any major city European city so adjust your expectations accordingly.

The hotel is stylish, clean, and beautifully designed. The service was excellent. The restaurant on the first floor was absolutely delicious!
However, it does feel quite overpriced for what you get. Even with an Amex room upgrade, the room was still very small for the price point. The rooftop food was also expensive. But good thing is that if you are Amex platinum holder, they give you $100 food credits for restaurant and $60 credits for breakfast. That’s what I’m very appreciated for. The pool was tiny, located right next to the rooftop dining area, which makes it a bit awkward to use (no wonder it’s empty). The gym on the second floor was also small.
To be honest, if I didn’t have Amex benefits, I wouldn’t choose to stay here! It’s a beautiful hotel with great service and aesthetics, but not quite worth the high nightly rate.
Proper is a great place to stay in Downtown Los Angeles. The decor and interior design gives off a boho and artsy vibe, which is both a treat for the eyes and senses. It’s a fun and playful imagination of what hotels can be, instead of stale and corporate designs that seem repetitive, bland and empty. Prosper has personality!
There is incredible attention to detail that makes the Proper a curated experience from the moment you step in. The property felt so safe and well maintained. Security at the doors welcome and help you onto the property. The front desk concierge were welcoming and walk you through everything to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible (shout out to Atiyyah who was amazing) such as the restaurants, complementary coffee/tea, rooftop pool, fitness center, and a thorough walk-through of the program perks.
The rooms were clean, the beds and sheets were luxurious, the lighting was great and customizable and dimmable for the vibes you’re looking for. The best part were the Aesop toiletries and products, yes, you read that right. Aesop. I have never been more relaxed after a night on the city. The robes are from Parachute, although light, were just fine and enjoyable.
Restaurants were great. Cara Cara is the rooftop bar and restaurant with stunning views and the fresh and quality food. Caldo Verde is their ground floor restaurant, which is well decorated and feels bright, classy, and uplifting.
Definitely consider Proper for your stay in Los Angeles.
