Your loved one will be in the absolute BEST care with Davis Funeral Home. My brother’s death was sudden and unexpected at age 47. Needless to say my family was devastated. I had to make the majority of the arrangements, and I have never had to plan a funeral, not to mention for a very close relative and we were out of state to boot! David Bolyard is nothing short of AMAZING. He was quick to give me his personal contact information to foster an open line of communication at all times.
He was incredibly knowledgeable and super patient in the initial days as I tried to ask questions and figure things out while still being in a state of complete shock and emotional distress. He went above and beyond to explain things and give advice/info before my family even committed to using his business for the funeral.
David kept on top of timelines of everything that needed to be decided in time dependent order without ever rushing me...ever! He was happy to give guidance when asked but always left space for our wishes as well as coming up with creative ways to accommodate things we wanted included that had not been done before or things not "in house."
If you could literally hold someone's hand through the phone, that's what David did for me during all the back and forth before I got into town to finalize things.
He called around to the churches to secure a priest during the time of our service, he started the obituary to get things flowing (and sent us copies for revisions before posting), he reached out to the next-of-kin responsible for signing consent for cremation, designed the online profile/obituary and fielded phone calls from others who were out-of-town who needed guidance. David also recommended a local hotel that offers a deeply discounted bereavement rate for out-of-town family which saved us a lot of money.
Even though David was my main point of contact, it obviously takes a strong, dedicated team to pull off the kind of top-notch services they provided. We were told to bring in whatever pictures we wanted (up to 500) and all we had to provide for music was the name of the song and singer. With just those things, David’s team was able to put together a gorgeous montage of all the pictures set to our requested music in the most beautifully artistic way. They then posted all of this online so distant friends and family could view them...and the online information will not expire! It will stay up as long as you want it there. They provided DVD copies of the montage that were included in the price of the service (and there is an option to purchase additional copies).
We opted for cremation as that was my brother’s wish. Having the crematory on-site not only saved money, but saved time and ensured that he was accounted for at all times from the funeral service to taking him home (out-of-state) for burial. We were able to select from a variety of elegantly styled urns and it was included in the price of the service. We also received a certificate of cremation.
The funeral service itself was amazing. The entire staff was extremely attentive and we had plenty of space to grieve and welcome visitors without having to interact with any other outsiders. We were blown away with how everything came together, and were so pleased with the amount of time, attention and care afforded to my brother as well as the service held to honor him. We were so afraid of how things would go because of our limited financial means when this all occurred. Our fears were unfounded though as the cost of service was affordable and the creative innovations of the staff kept costs even lower while still providing a touching ceremony I know my brother would have been proud of.
From the bottom of my heart, I will be eternally grateful for the kindness David and his team lavished on us. They were our rainbow in a rainstorm. If you choose to go with this funeral home for services for your loved one, I promise you will not regret it. 100+ years of service and it absolutely shows!
