I’m very disappointed in what I have seen at crittermart :( The reptiles were inappropriately cohabed and some lacked proper lighting. Unless they are of the same species and are young, reptiles cannot be cohabed due to intense stress, habitat incompatibility, and that they are solitary animals. They also still use the out dated practice of snake drawers. Snakes cannot be kept in there because they need a heat source, light, and proper space. It is OK to keep them in a small tank very temporarily as they are there to be sold, but a rack is not a suitable option. One other thing I’d like to make note of is that ALL of the reptiles are on carpet. This can damage their toes and also harvest an intense amount of bacteria causing an unsafe environment. A coco fiber or easily cleanable material (non porous/non abrasive mat) changed every 2 weeks-ish would be suitable for most of these reptiles. I’m aware that their other animals are also in half -half conditions, aren’t always ethically sourced, and are often inappropriately bred. As they are a small business, I know critter mart has the ability to do better for these animals and make an important change to improve their living conditions as well as make a change to the sourcing/breeding of these animals. Please take this review seriously as (even if not intentional) animal neglect is very present.

This is honestly the worst care I’ve ever seen for any animal ever. Cohabiting animals that do not belong together or have different needs is straight up neglect and abuse. Not to mention the puppies are sourced from very unethical, puppy mills and or supporting unethical breeding of dogs. Every time I went in there it reeks of animal feces, and urine that burns your nose the second you walk in through the door. animals appear to be miserable and are only taking outside when necessary. I am all for supporting local businesses, but not animal abuse. Not to mention the prices are also insane again, I’m one for supporting small businesses, but not at the cost of price gouging to properly care for an animal. Adopt AND Shop responsibly just not with them.
In all my life I have never seen a store with more abusive reptile care. Cohabiting solitary species like leopard geckos and bearded dragons, not only with themselves, but tortoises and cresteds? Extremely dangerous and neglectful. Leopard and crested geckos require such extremely different humidity and temperatures as they are from completely different parts of the world. It is nothing but dangerous and abusive to keep them together. I even saw some dangerously sleeping directly on the heat source, because there was nothing else for them to do in these sad enclosures. Every habitat was filthy, covered in feces, and used carpet as a substrate, known for harboring bacteria and ripping out teeth and nails. Not to mention snakes being kept in extremely depressing racks with 0 enrichment. This is the culmination of seeing these poor creatures as nothing more than profit instead of the living beings they are. If you plan on getting a reptile, please search for more ethical methods than this. These animals deserve so much better.
Don’t buy a lizard.
