I strongly encourage anyone to reconsider banking with Core Bank if they expect any modern amenities or conveniences in their banking. I actually lost money with a CD through Core Bank. I tried to help out a local bank, but every step of the way, from opening the CD to finally closing it and getting my money transferred back to me, was inconceivably difficult given today’s technology and other banks’ practices. It took almost a week to open the CD after I initiated it (by which time the APR dropped…). They gave no notice or reminder for when the CD was going to mature then roll over into a new CD rate and period so I missed my opportunity to move my money out and incurred a 3 month interest penalty on the new amount in my CD thereby losing money. They didn’t have a way to transfer my money out of Core Bank other than cutting me a physical check or opening a new checking account with them (which they thankfully waived a closing fee when I immediately closed the new checking account) and that took almost a week to get my money out of their account. Every time I opened an account (CD then checking), there were “tech” issues that didn’t automatically connect my account with my name/profile, so I would have to call Core and ask where my money was. Compare that to another CD I had with Ally: Ally gave sent me a reminder a month and then two weeks prior to my CD maturing; I could then easily online set up that CD to automatically disperse to an external, non-Ally, bank account without creating some Ally checking account to do so; I had my money in my external account the day after my CD matured. Also, Ally’s CD early withdrawal penalty would have been up to 3 months interest assuming the CD had accrued at least 3 months interest… Core took 3 months interest even though the rolled-over CD hadn’t accrued 3 months interest yet (it was only a few weeks old at the time) and even though they weren’t very helpful to alert me about the rollover. At best, they aren’t very helpful with customer service; at worst, they look to nickel and dime you. Core didn’t do any of those basic things I would expect from a modern bank. Everyone was very nice, but ultimately the bank's practice weren't helpful.

I went down on a Saturday. There were 2 bankers/tellers working. I had my wife and 3 kids with me. No one else there when we arrived. Mentioned interest in opening 3 accounts, standard, money-market savings and a 9-month CD. Had cash in hand to do all three. We sat down and started the process. Banker Alex was the only one out of the two that could access and use the computer systems. An hour plus into the process Alex had proceeded to excuse himself to help other customers. After 3 other customers came and went my family and I were still waiting to open accounts… a 4th customer came in and started asking about CDs which Alex helped answer questions about that. We finally decided that enough was enough. Lines are important and we didn’t mind waiting our turn but as a new customer looking to open an account. It is imperative to provide great customer service based upon first come and first serve. Alex the banker/teller should have told the customer that they could have a seat and he would be with them shortly as he was already assisting another customer. We ended up walking out the door and taking our business elsewhere. Customer service is everything and when it’s not given at the first step we must look elsewhere for what we deserve.
