I have ate the Colonial House for many years. My recent visit was good. I was greeted by a friendly upon entering the restaurant. Hector was a great server! He is incredibly attentive and remember a previous order. One basic thing that I fault servers for not keeping my drink topped off. Hector did fantastic. On to the food. The prime rib was flavorful and done to perfection! The entrée was served with a decent sized fresh side salad (Cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices and a small celery stock) and omg delicious onion rings. I have had the mashed potatoes and brown gravy which I wasn't a huge fan of. I have also had the chicken wing appetizers which were great. One complaint is the steak was pretty tough. Good but not needed was the asiago cheese crust. My girl had the chicken tenders and onion rings. She had no complaints and it was definitely fresh and hot. I highly recommend the Pumpkin Torte (or 2 or more). I look forward to coming back!

Service was pretty good, food was average American cuisine, and atmosphere was maybe a little above average. But holy crap is this place expensive for what it is. Virtually every entree was at least $25. Including just a basic burger and fries! Count on spending at least $120 for a family of 4 for an experience very similar to Denny's. We will not be returning here. Price gouging because you're "local" and in a tourist town doesn't justify the 2x cost, imho. There are lots of other excellent places to eat in Rapid.

My husband and I were looking forward to South Dakota walleye. We were greatly disappointed. We both had the walleye strips. Out of the 6/3 (half) had a strong fishy taste. The coleslaw was tasteless. We mentioned the fishy taste, & the waitress didn’t care. Disappointed that we paid $50, before tip, for a meal that neither one of us enjoyed.
