  We searched around, talked to a number of college consultants, before working with CAP. Many are boutique organizations that charge large sums for limited support. CAP is larger than most but still personal (we never had trouble getting in touch with my son's advisor) and can offer many resources due to that size/scale that brings with a price efficiency (ie they are more price competitive on an apples to apples basis to other firms I spoke to). First son about to head to college and 2nd son will be working with CAP starting soon.

  We hired College Assistance Plus (CAP) to assist us in appealing merit aid and college decisions as we were going through the process with our son his senior year. The things we were told by the company about how they assist and various outcomes they have had in the past did not reflect in our experience at all. We were NOT THINKING that CAP could get our son into college but we did expect better and more hands on assistance. Examples of letters we received that we were instructed to use for appeals were unimpressive at best and the names of their “contacts” at certain schools were ones in which we were able to find ourselves on line. In addition, we received no responses from the schools that we did send letter to, based on CAPS recommendations. When we spoke to CAP regarding these non- responses we were given excuses as to why and given additional people to contact. At this point we contacted a different advisor who gave us different advise and more extensive templates from which we did receive contact from the schools. In the very short amount of time we “worked” with CAP we basically handled everything ourselves. We paid upfront for what was supposed to be a long-term relationship through college and grad school but were refused a refund when after two months we were 100% dissatisfied even though we offered to pay for the few things the company did do in that time period. Please utilize this post as a consumer beware.

  CAP has provided us invaluable assistance in all phases of preparing our child for college. They help with everything from keeping our student on track, identifying career choices, school selection process, completing applications, reviewing essays, identifying scholarships and comparing costs. They were so great with our first child that our second child is now working with them. I highly recommend CAP!
