Clayton Homes and their Builder Mike is horrific. He cuts corners, doesn’t tell the truth and does not care about the quality of his delivery. It is sad that Clayton would allow such a person to represent them in the field. If you want a Clayton Home steer clear of Mike

If I could give this business a 0 star review I would. They have been the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. We started the process of purchasing our modular home in April of 2024. Our home was completed in August of 2024 at the manufacture and we closed Sept 2024. There was an issue with the lawyer that they recommended failed to order the abstract that was needed to close in a timely fashion. We were reassured multiple times we would be in our home for the holidays. It’s now July 2025 and our 400k home still sits vacant on our property with 3 weeks left on the building permit. Dennis rarely ever returns calls and the individuals in the office aren’t helpful at all. The contractor that they recommended has missed every deadline and has been just as bad to work with. At this point it would have been quicker to build our dream home from scratch instead of this process that was supposed to be easier and faster. We recommend going anywhere else. If you are military they aren’t military friendly and they don’t recommend military financing. In hindsight that should have been our first clue to find another company. Don’t recommend at all. Go anywhere else.

Honestly I should not even give them 1 star ... the only reason I did is because it is no longer Daves Quality Homes. Clayton had bought them out. My complaint is that I had purchased a beautiful Colony Home called the "Aspen" back in June of 2024. It was built in Pennsylvania and was finished in July 2024. It was finally delivered on November 25th, 2024. The pad was built and finished and the home was set on pad on December 17, 2024. The concrete was mixed and delivered by Cossitt concrete in Hamilton, NY. The terrible thing about this is that Dennis Montroy never paid for this concrete. Here it is now June 11th, 2025 ... 6 months later and Cossitt still hasn't been paid. Dennis had received the first draw of money from the bank and never paid Cossitt. Now I stand the chance of Cossitt putting a lien on my home and land. If this happens then what do I do? Cossitt has every right to do this however I did not contract them to bring the concrete, Dennis did! Also, I can not move into my home due to the construction of my deck, and other 2 entrances not passing NYS code. Back in May 2025 I was told that everything was ready and the codes enforcer can come and give me a certificate of occupancy. Needless to say it would not pass codes. There were no knee braces on any entrances or deck, the floor joists did not have the metal brackets needed for stability and support. Also there were no graspable handrails on any of the steps. Dennis had one guy come back and get this work done. So finally on June 10, 2025 I had the codes enforcer come back and it still didn't pass. I can not move in because the contract with Daves Quality Homes states that even if I have a temporary C/O I am not allowed to move in until the home is paid in full by the bank. I can not have the bank pay the last draw until I have a permanent C/O so then the bank will do the final inspection and cut the last check once they see the work is completed. I have been texting and calling Dennis and don't hear back from him. When I tell him that I would like to be kept in the loop about what is going on, I will get an update once in a very rare occasion. Dennis tells me that someone is coming and I want to say that half of the time nobody comes. Instead of having a crew come out 9 out of 10 times only one person comes when they do come. There is a lot more I can say about this however, it is already long enough. I hope anybody reading this that may be looking to purchase a place from Clayton Homes finds another area like Herkimer or Syracuse to purchase your Clayton Home. The reason I say this is because Dennis still runs Clayton Homes of Chittenango. Clayton Homes do make nice homes but I found that Colony Homes to be more customizable. Now whoever you go with just don't do it through the Chittenango retail lot. UPDATE: it is July 28th, 2025, and we are finally in our beautiful new home. Been in here for about 2 weeks and I absolutely love it. After fighting and arguing with Dennis at Clayton homes of Chittenango (previously Daves Quality Homes), they got the job done. I still will not recommend dealing with this place but maybe there will be a change in how they do business now that it is Clayton Homes. I did speak with the corporate office and maybe this is why it got finished.
