Cheshire did glass shower walls and a door for me years ago. Throughout the years, I have wanted to replace the base sweep and the caulking (older house, not the best ventilation). They have always been able to provide help and supplies needed. The original installation was amazing and is still gorgeous đ

The Team was great from start to finish! Had to replace 2 out of 3 panels in a large foyer window that lost their seal over the years. They always looked dirty to us and we decided it was time to fix the issue. Really one call and couple follow up emails was all it took. The windows look and feels as theyâre back on day 1! Lighting is better in our hall. Everything involving the job site was cleanedâŠas they were using staging they even dusted the light that is quite high up! THANKS FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
Frequently Asked Questions About Cheshire Glass Company
WHY DONâT YOU HAVE PRICES ON YOUR WEBSITE?
The truth is that there just isnât a set cookie-cutter price for what we do. Since all our work is custom to your application, there are many factors that go into selecting your glass solution, such as style, size, type, thickness, and hardware to list a few. But donât worry, at Cheshire Glass, we work with you to provide recommendations for a stylish, practical, custom solution that will fit your needs and budget.
HOW DO I GET STARTED SELECTING A GLASS SHOWER ENCLOSURE?
We know that selecting a glass shower door, multi panel shower, or tub enclosure can be a daunting task. Our shower selection page is a good place to start to narrow down your search to a particular style and hardware components.  We work with you to determine if a full-frame, semi-frame, or frameless shower enclosure is best for your application and style preference. Once all prep work is complete, our estimator will come to your home to gather specific measurements and design to compensate for wall and floor outages, any slopes or knee walls, and determine the best anchor points. The next step is we quote you a price and options. After you approve the quote, we then release the design takeoff for production. From that point, plan on a 4-6 weeks timeline until we come back to install your fabulous, new custom designed shower enclosure!
DO YOU CHARGE FOR CONSULTATIONS OR ESTIMATES?
No. Unlike other custom glass shops, we do not charge for estimates or consultations. We work hard to earn your business and strive to have you as one of our âwildly enthusiastic customers.
HOW CAN I CLEAN A âMILKY FOGâ THAT HAS APPEARED BETWEEN MY WINDOW GLASS?
Unfortunately, you canât. This is called a failed seal (the black rubbery-looking goop along the outside edge) and can happen on incorrectly fabricated or older insulated glass units (IGUs). Basically, what has happened is that moisture has entered through a delamination or hole in the once-sealed air space between the two pieces of glass and condensation has etched onto one or both panes. Give us a call to measure for a new IGU replacement.
WHAT EXACTLY IS AN INSULATED GLASS UNIT or IGU?
An IGU is basically a sealed unit of two (or more) pieces of glass with an insulating spacer around the edges forming an air barrier between them. On better units, the spacer is often filled with a desiccant that absorbs any moisture in the air barrier. Some insulating spacers can be filled with argon or krypton gas to provide additional insulation. The value of an IGU is that it reduces the heat/cold transmission through the window.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN âRâ AND âUâ VALUES?
The R-value measures a materialâs insulation properties. It represents the âresistanceâ a material has to the flow of heat. The HIGHER this value is the greater the resistance to heat. The U-value is an insulation rating for transparent material (like glass) that represents the amount of heat that escapes a surface. The LOWER the U-value, the better the insulation.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY SAFETY GLASS?
There are several compositions of safety glass on the market today including wire-mesh, riot, and ballistic glass of varying strength. The most widely used types of safety glass are laminated and tempered. Tempered glass has been heat treated and then rapidly cooled resulting in a strong, durable glass that shatters into granular and relatively harmless pieces when broken. Laminated glass is made up of two pieces of glass bonded together with a (thru) vinyl layer between them, which if broken, keeps the fragments from spraying like shrapnel. Most codes require that safety glazing must be used in any door, any glass within two feet of a door, and any glass within eighteen inches from the floor.
WHAT TYPE OF GLASS DO I NEED FOR A TABLETOP?
Generally, tempered glass is used if the glass is only supported along the sides and the middle is an open (not solid) surface. If you can see your legs through the tabletop, tempered glass is required. If the glass top is covering a solid surface, plate glass is the economical answer.
WHAT TYPES OF MIRRORS DO YOU SELL?
We fabricate and install all types of mirrors from antique to traditional. Whether you are looking for a full wall (gym, dance studio), bathroom vanity, or framed mirror we can custom cut to your size and edge design.
DO YOU MAKE SCREENS?
Yes. We can build a new screen frame, and repair or rescreen your existing sash in our shop. We stock a variety of aluminum and fiberglass screening mesh from ultra-fine âno see umsâ, and clear view, to heavy duty pet screen options. Whether you are looking for a window or sliding door screen or a fully screened-in porch enclosure, Cheshire Glass is your full-service answer.
