During the government shutdown, things have been really difficult. I haven’t been paid in about 15 days and have been doing odd jobs just to stay afloat. When I stopped by Charley’s Philly Steaks, I accidentally ordered the wrong size drink.
Eric S., who was working that day, noticed and just gave me a large Coke without making a big deal about it. It might sound small, but it really meant a lot to me. He didn’t know my situation — and that’s the point. His kindness wasn’t because he felt sorry for me; it was just genuine.
In that moment, it made me feel human again — like I wasn’t just struggling through another hard day, but that someone still saw me as a person who mattered.
