We were disappointed with the transparency with the billing practices here. My wife and I are fostering two stray dogs, which we've had in our garage while we find a home for them. In late July, when the heat was too unbearable, we decided it would be best to board our two fosters. We called Bittersweet on a Thursday and were told that, for two dogs, it would be roughly $125/night - normally the charge would be $148/night (that's $74/night per dog), but given that our fosters would be boarded together, we would get about a $20 discount per night. Plus, we would be given our first night free because we were new clients. Given this information, we expected our bill to be around the $250 range. This sounded reasonable, so we agreed to it. Instead, when we picked them up, our bill was over $600. What was never discussed at any point was that, because we were picking our dogs up on a Sunday, there would be a $74 surcharge per dog because they were being picked up on a "late checkout" basis, given that 3pm is the earliest they do checkouts on Sundays. This isn't on the main page of their website, nor is it even on the lodging contract that you sign: it's on their house rules, which you have no way of knowing ahead of time unless you've gone to their website, clicked specifically on their "Dog Boarding" page, scrolled past that page's FAQ, and continued scrolling to the bottom to click a small-text link that brings you to their 3-page "House Rules" document. Further, we were not given any discount for having our dogs lodged together. We were charged the full $74 per-dog per-day rate, plus the extra $148 fee for checking out on a Sunday. Only when I complained that I was told the first night would be free if we stayed three nights, we were given one-night-free for one of our fosters. I feel deceived and cheated. While I trust that our fosters had a pleasant stay at the facility, we would've never agreed to spend the amount of money that we did. When we were faced with another heat wave a short time after this visit, we opted to spend $500 on a portable AC unit for our garage instead of forking that money over to Bittersweet. I can't see us using Bittersweet ever again, and I can't help but feel like the hidden costs are an intentional part of their scheme. (Note to business: when responding to my review, I do request that your response omits my pets' names, for privacy reasons.)

The staff is very friendly. Our 1 year old Aussie had 2 weeks of training. They give report cards and communicate with us regularly. Our dog is easily distracted, so heeling is difficult for her. Our dog was happy to be greeted by staff after she got to know them. Which is a great indication of how the staff treat the dogs. The trainer spent time with us to show us the training techniques used, so we could continue. I was impressed with the Focus, training. Never heard of this before. We would definitely use Bittersweet again.

Stayed for two nights, the staff was a ton of and took good care of my dog. I felt safe leaving her there overnight. Except I was at the Three Rivers location, not Niles as this indicates. Thank you for all you do
