This self-guided trail through recreated prairie was well kept and interesting. In early September, there were lots of wildflowers in bloom and I was able to observe many insects and butterflies. One of three nearby sites dealing with the Dakota War of 1862, this was the most informative. By the parking lot, there is a bench under an awning and a nearby picnic table under a roof that offers respite from the sun. This site might not seem to have a lot to offer but I think learning about the Dakota War has been very thought provoking and the prairie landscape was a lovely bonus.

What once once a battlefield during the Dakota War of 1862 is now an area filled with native plantings. There is a trail with signage that tells the story of the battle but no historic buildings so it's like reading a book while taking a nature walk on a gravel trail.

Very historic battle site for the Dakotas, well documented as you walk the site.
