Extremely disappointed in what was meant to be a high-end stay. After spending several thousand dollars, our reservations were mishandled multiple times — including both our room and dinner. After the second room mistake (which cost us our two-bedroom cottage), I had to ask Shannon for any recognition of the inconvenience; she then offered a 10% discount. On the third issue, Shannon assured us we’d be moved to a comparable cabin — instead, we were given two one-bedroom cabins. When Adam took over, he refused to honor the discount and offered only a $200 food credit. Meanwhile, Courtney tried to frame a $2,500 private dining room as a favor. The only sincere apology came from the front desk operator. Communication, organization, and accountability have been unacceptable. Guests deserve better.

Our stay had a lot of potential—the location was great, and the accommodations were comfortable. We were delivered pastries every morning and the staff were kind. We stayed at the Tower Suite at Thunder Ridge Arena. We booked for 4 nights. Unfortunately, there was a significant wasp issue right outside our building that made it difficult to enjoy the property. We were not able to go outside in the afternoon on the property given the severity of the issue. Our adults would guess probably 300-400 wasps flying around the area. We contacted the front desk several times, but the situation wasn’t addressed during our stay. I understand that outdoor conditions can sometimes be unpredictable, but given the caliber and price of this property, I had hoped for a bit more responsiveness or assistance. It was disappointing, as everything else about the stay could have been wonderful. I’m sharing this in hopes that management reviews these concerns and takes steps to ensure future guests have a smoother experience, especially with smaller kids. Update: building reached out and made this right. Thank you Big Cedar Lodge and Anne!

The properties are top notch, the accommodations are great, but the concierge and on site staff are very much not aligned with the costs and expectations that come with the costs. There’s almost always a language barrier issue, which I was not expecting and do not appreciate. We made a request to have a call back from a manager with a few complaints and never got the call back. And the staff doesn’t adhere to the reduced speed limits, they zip through campsites at 40-50mph constantly.

Grace (or Gracie), the manager, was incredibly rude and condescending. I’ve stayed at many resorts, and I’ve never experienced anything like this—being placed in a massive, unfinished building with no staff around. Honestly, I hate to even say this, but it makes me wonder if it’s because we’re gay. We had a long conversation with the manager, and despite the building being empty, she refused to upgrade our room. This experience has been horrendous, and I’ll definitely be sharing it publicly to my socials in Kansas City. To make it clear we are in probably a 100,000 ft.² building all alone no staff and no guest and no amenities….10 minutes away from the actual “resort” I do also wanna make it clear. The workers have been amazing, but the management clearly has never owned a business or knows what they’re doing. They need to be gone.

I applied twice this year for the IT Support Specialist role at Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge. The first time I had what I thought was a solid interview, but weeks went by without any follow-up, and the applicant portal eventually just showed that I was “no longer being considered.” When I reached out for clarification, I received vague and conflicting information. When the position was posted again, I applied a second time. Within a week, the portal once again showed that I was no longer being considered — without any explanation. Since I was now local, I took the extra step of visiting the HR office in person, spoke with staff there, and left my name and reason for visiting with the expectation that I would at least receive a follow-up. Weeks went by again with complete silence. So I followed that up with a very terse missive admitting my disappointment with this unprofessionalism and very substandard recruitment process. Within an hour of sending that I get a voicemail from the HR woman wanting to discuss it, although the implication was that to be clear, everything should be documented so I expected a written response to my missive. Then immediately following the voicemail I receive a very short and direct email advising me to return the call “If I felt like discussing it” once she is back in the office the next day. I responded with a written reply email, again reemphasizing my point to have everything documented. Silence once again. As you see with this behavior, HR is trying to control the narrative and avoid having things documented for fear of it exposing their unprofessionalism to superiors. This lack of communication is unprofessional and discourteous. All I ever asked for was the same courtesy and respect given to any other applicant. Instead, I was ignored twice, despite making every effort to engage in good faith. And only when I acted with a strong missive did it elicit any kind of response, although unsatisfactory. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Bass Pro Shops as an employer. (I would invite Johnny Morris to reach out to me privately and I’ll be more than happy to provide testimonials and documented facts, if he even sees this review!)
