Riders, listen up. Just got back from a killer run with our motorcycle riding group, and our layover at the Best Western Topaz Lake Inn, September 12th through the 14th, 2025 was as smooth as a freshly paved road. We booked eight rooms and every one of them was perfect.
This isn't your average pit stop. The place is run right, and that starts at the top. Had to give a shout-out to the soft-spoken and respectful manager, Shawm, who made sure our group was set up without a hitch. And his front desk counterpart, Shelley, was an absolute delight. Nothing but good people running the show.
The rooms themselves were spotless and big—plenty of space to stretch out and store all the gear. But the real score is the view. Waking up to a clear shot of Topaz Lake was something else. After a day on the road, hitting the hot tub felt just right, and that quiet gazebo overlooking the lake was a great spot to kick back. For those looking to work out the road kinks, there's even a gym.
Before rolling out, a satisfying breakfast was a highlight. The hot options were hearty and fulfilling, going beyond typical cold cereal with items like eggs, sausage, and waffles. The coffee was robust, providing a good kick to start the day. If you're traveling through the area and looking for a place to stay, we highly recommend Best Western Topaz Lake Inn.
Its one of the only major branded hotels in the area so they charge outrageous prices for the quality of the place. Your better off camping or staying in gardnerville.

First of all, I’d stay here again if coming through the area because it’s the only choice. While “OK“ it certainly isn’t up to the level of say a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express.
First, the good news. The rooms have a great view, see photograph. They’re nice rooms though a little dated interiors. The guestrooms were also quite spacious . The rooms were clean with one noticeable exception, the toilet had long encrusted urine all around the seat hinge, gross! The public areas are not well kept. windows are dirty & breakfast area/lobby looked like my frat house living room on the morning after a party (not good, stuff not picked up). The breakfast food was “OK” but the scrambled eggs tasted a little odd, but it was edible and we didn’t get sick. I also doubt the fire marshal would like to see the stuff piled up at the bottom of exit stairs, see photograph . The staff with the exception of one very helpful housekeeper seem to be going through the motions of hospitality, period. That included the front desk person.
I also felt the website was a bit misleading about having a dining room room. What they meant is that the casino up the hill in a little ways down the highway has a dining room room.
The hotel did well work well for my wife on a knee scooter, but the casino with the steakhouse certainly did not so we ended up going 15 minutes away to find a very good Mexican restaurant

Very spacious rooms to move around in for this old grandma. Lovely view of the Topaz Lake and surrounding mountains. I walked around and noticed a Big gazebo on the far end with a BBQ, I wish I knew that, I would have brought dinner outside and dined alfresco.
The Hot tub looked very inviting, and there were gorgeous rose bushes blooming all over.
Breakfast was very adequate with eggs, sausage and waffles and assorted breads and yogurts. It was fine for my gluten free diet, and as a plus, it was very nice to see almond milk.
Check in was pleasant and suggested the casino next door for dinner...I don't do casinos due to cigarette smoke, but I heard another guest say their meal was excellent.
I will definitely stay here again when I come to visit family and friends.
