This is, without a doubt, a grand old hotel that is still doing great! From the moment you step into the lobby, you are greeted by an atmosphere of timeless elegance. The architecture speaks to a bygone era of hospitality, yet the property is meticulously maintained, avoiding the dusty, worn feeling that can often plague historic venues. It’s clear that the management takes great pride in preserving its heritage while keeping the public spaces fresh and inviting.
What truly elevated this stay was the feeling that I was receiving a four-star service at a three-star price. This hotel is an exceptional value proposition. The staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping team, was consistently proactive, professional, and genuinely warm. It's a true hidden gem for travelers seeking premium service without the luxury price tag.
My accommodation, a well-appointed suite, was equally impressive on the surface. The suite was large and exceptionally spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and feel completely settled, not just accommodated. It featured a generous living area separate from the bedroom, and I was pleased with the thoughtful lot of amenities included, such as ample desk space, and fast, reliable complimentary Wi-Fi.
However, the enjoyment of these wonderful surroundings was significantly compromised by one major issue: the seating. The mattress, the sofa, and the lounge chair were all extremely uncomfortable. The mattress felt hard, resulting in a poor night's sleep and back stiffness each morning. Similarly, the living area seating—both the sofa and the lounge chair—were uncomfortable, offering little to no support, making them unsuitable for working or relaxing for more than a few minutes. While the suite's size and amenities were five-star, the comfort level of the furniture felt closer to a one-star hostel.
In summary, this hotel is a marvel of classic charm and top-tier service delivery. Should the management invest in updating the bedding and guest seating to match the quality of the service and the grandeur of the setting, this would easily once again become the premier hotel in the city.
