I travel extensively and I have stayed in some not-so-very-nice hotels. The Best Western in Oswego, NY, ranks among the worst I have ever encountered. I should have taken more notice when I drove up and saw 4 employees who bore a strong resemblance to the cast of Deliverance sitting outside smoking. They definitely gave me the proverbial 'once over' when I exited my vehicle to walk inside. The young man working at the front desk was friendly and helpful, though, so I went ahead and booked a room. I was tired and when I saw the 'Best Western' logo I thought any concerns would prove unfounded. The hotel is absolutely filthy! The carpet looks like it's never seen a cleaner and most of the light fixtures have rust and corrosion all over them. Some don't function adequately due to the rust and filth. The shower and tub had an alarming amount of black mold and numerous tiles were cracked or broken altogether. The sheetrock (dry wall) was cracked or broken in several spots, as well. Paint was chipped or absent completely on some walls. To make matters even more challenging, the hotel is located adjacent to an Aldi grocery, something which I didn't think would matter in the least. Was I ever wrong!! Around 12am-2am workers at Aldi started banging, laughing, and yelling on the loading dock, which kept me awake for several hours. I asked the front desk about it but was met with a blank stare and "uh", only to be told nothing could be done about it. The next morning I drove a block or so to get fuel and the town looks like something from a dystopian nightmare. It's a decaying, dirty, depressing little spot in the Allegheny Mountains that is better off bypassed. My recommendation: Keep on driving. There were other hotels about 2 hours East of Oswego. I think if the Best Western corporation sent a representative to check this place out they would remove their company name because this place does NOT meet the standards I have encountered elsewhere.

Had a few issues but they were very accommodating and changed our room. Hotel was okay. Truck unloading ar 1 am was very disturbing but they stopped it quickly. Staff was nice, breakfast was ok.
