Short story: it was an expensive mistake to be here.
Environment: the parking areas are muddy and uneven, including a large pothole. In the warmer months there are enough bugs you’ll likely need bug spray. There was an active rodent and pest problem that wasn’t managed well enough.
Management: they’re responsive enough when I called them. You can leased a unit without having to go to the office, which is convenient.
Actual units: not clean, others clearly store food in the units, which attracts pests/rodent. The 10x10’s are not a true 10’ in any direction. So be aware of that if you’re storing a 10’ object.
Why not one star? When I did alert them to the pest issues, they responded right away. However at the email exchange below shows, it was too little too late.
Below is the email I sent them at move out (personal information redacted). Their response amounted to “this is why you have insurance.”
I did have insurance, but it doesn’t fix the problem that my items where able to be damage free for 5+ years in a different outdoor storage facility, but got ruined to the point of throwing them away after they’d been here for just a few months.
Sadly, it was an experience mistake to be here.
Email:
Good morning,
I wanted to confirm that I’ve vacated unit —- on —— and will not be renewing my lease.
Unfortunately there was significant amount of damage to items in my unit due to the presence of rodents, spiders, and ants.
While we were unloading my unit we saw two nearby units that still had food, paper scraps, and rodent droppings coming from them. There was also significant spiders webs and egg sacs, along with two dead mice. There were also ants inside the hallway and my unit. I’ve utilized storage units for several years and understand how crucial it is to never storage food inside a unit, and therefor had none in my unit.
I understand pest control measures were taken once I brought this issue to light previously, however it seems it was not fully addressed nor was it proactively addressed to prevent the issues to begin with.
(I requested a refund, and attached pictures)
Their response:
Susan-
Thanks for your email. I have processed the move out and emailed you the confirmation. We engage pest control but it is impossible to prevent rodents/insects from getting in and also impossible to screen what the tenants are storing that may attract them. This is one reason why we require insurance so that your belongings are protected.
