  I called Robert Roots office late in the day on Thursday needing an attorney to represent my friend the next morning for a criminal case in Trumbull County. I explained to Root secretary how important it was to have him in court the next day for said case and that I was willing to send payment right away if he could commit to being there. His secretary informed me that he would do it but wanted $5000 upfront. The case was a status hearing for a simple felony 5 drug possession case! $5000 for a single status hearing is 5 or 6 times what anyone else would charge but seeing I was in need of help Roots office decided to monetize that need by price gouging me knowing it would be difficult for me to find another attorney in such a short time. Since that was the case and I didn't have much of an option I decided to agree to pay the $5,000. It was around 4:30 in the afternoon which made it impossible to go to the bank to get cash and bring to them or deliver a check and charging $5000 to my debit card exceeded the card limits for the day which is very common foremost debit cards. With that being said I offered to send them payment electronically via wire or electronic transfer. At first secretary informed me that they don't know how to do a wire transfer to which I informed her I use a payment service which only required me to get their email address to send them payment. She provided their company email (a free personal Yahoo Mail account) which I then sent $5000 to. When I called back to confirm she got the email I was told that she didn't see it in the moment she took to look and that she was trying to get home didn't want to stay any longer and that she would come in the next morning and check to make sure it came. I was concerned because our court date was at 9:45 a.m. the next morning and she said she wouldn't be in until 8:00 to check. I ask if I could count on him being in court the next morning which she assured me he would be as long as the money was sent. My payment service is a major payment provider which confirmed the payment sent and that the email was delivered. The next morning I had to call numerous times until finally at 830am I received a call back saying she didn't see the email but "wasn't very good with the email stuff" and just short of told me she didn't have time to keep looking. I asked if they have any other email I could send their funds claim link to, maybe a legitimate company email account or even another personal one. She told me that no, nobody at the office has any other email we could use, only the free Yahoo Mail account, which is obviously not true in year 2025. I then asked what does that mean for my friend who has court in less than a half hour. She basically told me she didn't know and brushed us off before then telling me that it doesn't matter that the payment didn't come because Root wouldn't be able to go to court for anyone that morning due to a funeral he had to go to! Which means there was no point to even sending or hiring him in the first place since he was never going to show anyways! My friend ended up going with no representation , having a terrible outcome because of it and now has a warrant.. if your looking for an ambulance chaser who will overcharge you, isn't able to accept electronic payment for the price gouging prices he will charge you and then not show up anyways, then Robert Root is your man! He will live up to every expectation you have. Maybe even outdo your expectations!
