Great service, communication, and cleanliness.
Dishwasher wasn't cleaning well, so I called Alan's. The tech came out and quickly decided I needed to replace the drain hose. I was skeptical since the dishwasher was draining fine. The tech showed me the existing hose and told me that it was obviously clogged and needed replacing because it had become opaque when it was originally translucent. This was clearly an opaque gray hose from the start. Nevertheless, I let him do the replacement because he was totally confident this would fix my issue. It didn't help at all. Now that I'm replacing my dishwasher myself, I've also come to realize that $325 to replace a dishwasher drain hose is ridiculous - it's a $20 hose at best and a 20 minute job. On top of the ridiculous price, the drain hose was installed without a high loop.

We have been using Alan’s Appliance Repair for the past four years and have found them to be honest and reliable. When our refrigerator stopped cooling, I googled for their phone number and although I was surprised to see some recent negative reviews, I called them. They once again took care of our problem and we are happy to have our refrigerator working properly. Quick, friendly and reliable service is what we’ve always received from this company. Highly recommend.
They replaced our GE washer, they saved us $. They are worth every penny and I will definitely be calling them if we have any issues with our appliances.

Shadier than an apple orchard.
I dispatched Alan’s to my rental property because my tenant notified me the fridge was not cooling. They were responsive and worked with my tenant to schedule a time to visit. I spoke with their dispatch after the visit and they claimed that the freezer had frosted up blaming my tenant for leaving the door open. I got in touch with their tech to question what diagnostics had been done and told me the defrost heater and defrost thermostat both were tested and proven by multimeter. I paid the $195 and considered it done.
Within about a month I got a call from my tenant that the issue came back. Their invoice lists a 1 year warranty on labor & parts so tried to call them several times and sent a few texts. Nothing. Finally my wife calls from a different number, they pick straight up. She explains, he sighs, confirms he will be there that afternoon.
I turn up at the service call while my tenant is there with Alan. I ask why he wouldn’t answer my calls. I get excuses. He tells me the control board has to be replaced. I ask what diagnostics lead him to that conclusion, he says he can tell by the look of the frost. I ask why the same conclusion wasn’t made on the first call. He blames “the other tech”. He says he can replace it tomorrow morning (Saturday) for $500. I quickly google it. The most expensive retailer online lists it for $200. Pound sand. He leaves.
My tenant says he’s pretty sure that was the same guy that came before, whom I assume is the owner. He said he didn’t bring much more than a screwdriver and a heat gun on the first visit and spent less than 20min on it the first time. You can hire a lawyer for less than $600 an hour. It’s clear now the discussion about diagnostics after the first call was a fabrication.
So I go order the board online (turns out Amazon had a 3rd party board for $40) and turn up with tools in hand to defrost and test the defrost loop. It’s all working just fine. The board is the issue.
I attached a photo of what the evap coil looked like when I opened it. It’s clear he defrosted the coil just enough to get it to work for a few weeks, and there no possibility of doing technical diagnostics. You can see where the hard ice covers the lower half, and the new frost accumulated on top. I can’t believe they tried to fleece me for another $500.
Defrosted and new board in, it’s been running fine ever since.
Just pretty outrageous. Hard to tell if they were just trying to take advantage of a landlord with limited supervision, or if it’s the common play for this shop. Either way it’s clear that it was intentional and dishonest.
If you want it done right do it yourself.
