Recommend asking for a complete cost breakdown of all services prior to your visit.
I elected to pay $39 for "Optomap Imaging" out of pocket after the cost and service was explained to me. Payment was made at the practice following my visit.
It was an unpleasant surprise to get a bill for an additional $136 for a "Corneal Eval Level 3". This additional cost not explained by the staff. Better communication is required in terms of billing and expenses. When queried later, it was explained as a "contact lens fitting".
Dr Smith was pleasant and efficient.

I love Dr Smith but I think he needs better staff. They dont tell you what to bring with you for your appointment or how much it will cost for any out of cost expenses or copays. They dont tell you to be prepared for dilation and the fee with that or to bring sunglasses or to bring your contacts or old prescription with you or that you will have to pay for the dilation and the copays. They could easily tell you that or send an email or text to you prior to the appointment. They dont tell you that there is a stack of paperwork in super tiny font that you will have to fill out prior to the appointment. The staff just let you look like a fool. I wish we could just bypass the front desk people and just talk straight to the doctor. I think he is wasting money on even having front desk staff as they are too lazy to even let you know what to bring for your first appointment. They keep asking you if you are doing the contact or the glasses exam even though I told them when I made the appointment and I texted them back and forth. All the text message info didnt even get put in my file so that was a waste. The dilation wss so strong and my eyes so blurry and sensitive that I could barely make it home. If they had told me that I would this and the different options to pay for the non drop dilation or not pay, I would have rescheduled when I had the extra money and or I would have brought sunglasses along. They need to communicate better at this location. I was not prepared to pay $80 and they could had easily told me this. If Dr Smith was not here, I would not bother coming back. Dr Smith was amazing answered all my questions. Did a thorough exam, made some recommendations and shared his experience with glasses. I really related to him and understood him and felt understood. But his staff dont know what they are doing. And they don't give your prescription either. Usually you get a copy of it to take at every other place ive been to outside Alaska
