I recently had to return an item to Academy and the process could not have been easier. I brought it back in-store, and the staff was friendly, quick, and made the whole return stress-free. They pulled up my order with just my email confirmation, processed it right away, and refunded me to my original payment method without any hassle. I really appreciate how simple and customer-friendly Academy makes returns. Great experience overall!

Love the selection of product they had but the customer service was very poor. When we went to check out this scanned multiple items twice making it confusing and the cashier was also not present and watching a video on his phone and had headphones and while checking us out very poor customer service tonight

On 9/5/2025 around 4:15-4:30 My husband and I visited the gun department, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. From the moment we walked up to the counter, the interaction felt off. The associate came across as defensive and short, even when my husband simply asked about a specific firearm. He gave one-word answers and no real detail, so my husband ended up finding what he was looking for on his own. When my husband asked to see a particular gun, the associate requested his ID, which we understood. I also provided mine since I was handling the firearms too, trying to see which one I would be most comfortable with. After showing me two options, the associate suddenly stopped and asked if this was a straw purchase. My husband asked why he was being questioned like that, especially since we had the same address on our IDs (the associate assumed we didn’t have the same address). The associate said “yall don’t have the same address is this a straw sale?” Husband showed him again yes we do have the same address so why are we being asked this question. He didn’t really have an answer, only saying he “didn’t mean to offend.” We understand the importance of following firearm sales laws and safety protocols, but the way this situation was handled was unprofessional and uncomfortable. Rather than approaching the matter with tact or explaining why he was asking, the associate seemed to assume the worst about us from the beginning. This could be a good teaching opportunity for staff. A man, woman, and their children walking in together shouldn’t immediately be treated with suspicion. There are better ways to ask sensitive questions without alienating customers or making them feel unwelcome.

Went to purchase fishing licenses at the McKinney Texas Academy Sports. Apparently there was some sort of simple system error with the TPWD. I informed NICOLE CASPAR that she could call them and she said she can't that I just need to get a refund for the license that I just paid for and call them myself. 🤔 I insisted that there's someone that she could call but NICOLE CASPAR said she won't. 😕 So I reluctantly got my refund went to the truck and called the TPWD Licensing Division myself. The person on the line was very nice and informed me that NICOLE CASPAR should call them from the store if there are any issues and they are well aware at the store that they can call TPWD for help. The fact that a TPWD employee had to apologize for NICOLE CASPARs behavior is ridiculous. NICOLE CASPAR is the Academy Sports employee that tried to help me. She could not have been any less interested or rude in assisting me as a customer. All she cared about was hustling to the next customer and getting back behind her computer in her cage and getting her headset on. I spend a lot of money with you all as a full-time fishing guide and I have never been treated that way in any of your stores before until I met your employee NICOLE CASPAR. Hopefully you'll have a chat with this person and remind her of her duties while she in on the job.
