The neighborhood is great but Richmond American Homes is a nightmare to deal with so I'd recommend avoiding them as a builder in this neighborhood and others.
They intentionally make things as difficult as possible to waste your time in hopes that you'll give up and reduce the work they are contractually obligated to do to. They consistently deflect, deny and dodge valid attempts to resolve problems they're responsible for.
The quality of their work and the work of their subcontractors is poor and unacceptable. They will attempt to tell you how they'll fix it through their warranty process and then run you in circles. You better have it in writing and resolved prior to closing or it likely won't happen. Then hope that all of the homes around you are owner occupied so you're not impacted by their sloppy work and disregard for those who they've already gotten their money from.
We have great neighbors and a wonderful location but I will never recommend Richmond American Homes after our experience with them over the past two years, from starting the build process through the end of their warranty period. This was not our first time building a home but it was definitely the most frustrating experience, by far.

We started a new build with Richmond American in Winchester due to the nice lot sizes and floor plans. Unfortunately, due to job changes we had to back out of our contract. After seeing the build quality and fit a finish of the installed fixtures, we were happy to leave the earnest money on the table.
Pros
- Spacious and well designed floor plans.
- Decent lot sizes.
- Sales representative Brandon was nice.
Cons
- The price does not match the materials used to build the home.
- No communication at all from the building superintendent during the build process.
- The house did not come standard with ANY type of ceiling lights or pre wiring for ANY lights in ANY room outside of the finished basement. (They weren’t going to install wiring and a light switch for ceilings lights without an upgrade. Paying for the upgrade gave you the privilege of having to add a light fixture later in the family room, primary, secondary, and third bedroom.
- The build quality was subpar for a home this expensive.
We were able to purchase another new construction home from a different builder with similar square footage that made us realize how awful of a purchase this home would have been. Our new home was roughly $100K cheaper but included all the upgrades this home didn’t. (Soft close cabinets, cabinet handles, crown molding, lights in all the rooms, truly upgraded appliances, nice flooring. etc…) There is no comparison to the quality difference.
We also had a chance to look at the same floor plan in the Brunswick community and the quality was a night and day difference.
With an asking price over $700K you expect to get a lot more.
