Disappointing Visit – Not Ideal for Serious Collectors or Beginners.
My visit to Aberdeen Coin Gallery was, unfortunately, quite underwhelming. I had hoped to find a knowledgeable expert who could provide insight into coins and currency, but that wasn’t the case.
To start, parking is limited and awkward—just a few tight spots uncomfortably close to a busy road. Once you arrive, you can’t just walk in; you have to be let inside, which immediately sets a closed-off tone. The “shop” itself is more like a small, dim room lacking warmth or a welcoming atmosphere.
The gentleman who assisted me had some surface-level knowledge but offered little in terms of explanation or enthusiasm. There was no effort to educate or engage in any meaningful conversation about the coins I had. For anyone looking to research, get coins graded, or even just understand their value, this isn’t the place.
If you’re new to coin collecting and feeling unsure of where to begin, I strongly recommend skipping this stop. Instead, consider:
Reading a reputable coin booklet or guide
Watching educational coin videos
Visiting a variety of local shops for comparison
Browsing reputable coin auctions
Checking grading info from trusted sources like PCGS
Sadly, I left feeling like I’d wasted my time—time I wish I could reclaim. This gallery might serve a very narrow purpose for seasoned buyers who know exactly what they want, but for most, it’s simply not worth the trip.
