Let’s start with what I ordered today.
1 LB Brisket 1/2 LB Texas Sausages
(2) 2X2 Pulled Pork & Burnt Ends
Sides : Mac & Cheese, Fries, Cheesy Potato’s, and Texas or smoked Corn( I think is what it’s called correct me if I’m wrong)
Chocolate bomb and Reese’s cookie!
I came in at lunch and the service was great, I ordered, and once I put the whole order in they began prepping everything in front of me. The person prepping was really nice and so was the person helping him! First thing I noticed was the brisket on a cutting board to the side, and as he was cutting it there was absolutely no jiggle or juices, but I thought ehh whatever haven’t had barbecue in months so I can deal with a little dry brisket. They had no sausages up front so they called someone to bring them some already cut up front, and the fries also weren’t ready so they said they would bring it out to the table, no problem there! The pulled pork looked great, and the burnt ends looked a little suspect as far as the color, honestly looked like they had been sitting a while.
Taste & Rating:
BRISKET 2/10
Every barbecue spot I go to with reviews like this place, I always order a pound of brisket, sausages are my favorite but brisket is just delicious. Well, this was by far the worst brisket I’ve had in Jax so far. The Brisket was SO DRY. It lacked any juice and I ate 1 1/2 slices before I gave up. The barbecue sauce could not save that cut. I understand sometimes you can overcook a little bit, but as a chef, or management or whoever, you gotta see that brisket and just know, you can’t serve that. Any flavor the bark possibly had was masked by the amount of times I had to chew it and how much I had to douse it in barbecue sauce to get through it. Unfortunate, because there are so many good reviews on it.
SAUSAGES: 6/10
Honestly I’d probably rate the sausage a 7/8 because of the flavor, but my sausages came to me hardly room temperature, they did taste good and paired with that spicy BBQ you guys have it was pretty banging, I wish I had it fresh and juicy!!!
PULLED PORK: 8/10
Bangin, crazy it was actually the best thing we had to eat lol. Didn’t need sauce it was juicy and tender! Normally we always get it as like the side character in the movie lol
BURNT ENDS: 0/10
oh my god, I thought the brisket was bad lol. My assumption was right they had been sitting far too long, it was so dry my son couldn’t even bite into his, my wife was gripping those things tryna spread it apart. She herself likes her barbecue a little dry but she couldn’t believe how dry they were either. The server was kind enough to replace my son’s burnt ends with the pulled chicken since he literally couldn’t eat a bite of it and he loved the pulled chicken!
FRENCH FRIES: 8/10
bangin, nothing better then fresh crispy fries with good flavor, good job on those, I can get behind that!
Mac & Cheese: 6/10
It was good, nothing crazy but it was good ! Kinda reminded me of KFC Mac & Cheese but better, my son loved it
Texas or street corn lol : 8/10
Yea that was good I loved that it was actually tasty, most places just can’t nail the corn at all and you guys really did!
CHEESY POTATOS: 5/10
They were okay, nothing special but they weren’t bad by any means!
CHOCOLATE BOMB: 9/10
I can’t cap, this thing took me and my wife by surprise! F.I.R.E. Also pretty sick you guys have a kind of bakery section!
REESES COOKIE: 6/10
A bit underwhelming, visually it looked 10/10 but it lacked in the taste department, it just tasted okay!
In total I spent just about 100$, and I felt my money was not well spent which is unfortunate because I see so many good reviews, I talked to another customer who stated “ you should come on Friday evening or the weekends after 2 because the food is something special” and I’m not sure I can get behind that, I feel like food quality shouldn’t depend on the day, because I paid the same price for the “special” weekend food! I am disappointed today, HOWEVER, I won’t let one bad experience stop us from coming back, just might have to come on Saturday next time lol.
