24/7 Restoration provides Water Damage Restoration, Mold Removal, Mold Remediation, House Restoration and Damage Restoration to the Laguna Hills, California area.
I called the office Sunday evening, and Eddy picked up the phone. He was here by 9am Tuesday (Monday was Labor Day). I thought the black area in my borescope picture was mold, and four other contractors, including a highly rated restoration company, agreed with my suspicion.
Eddy immediately said it was not mold. He returned the next day and opened the inner wall with Diego and Marco. While the moisture damage was more widespread than initially thought, Eddy confirmed there was thankfully no mold present. Thanks to this finding I was able to focus on the source of the water leak which Eddy and his team started with water testing.
This made a significant difference because restoration companies are paid by insurance companies (according to a general contractor I spoke with) based on the number of dehumidifiers and fans they deploy. The honesty and expertise of 24/7 and Eddy saved me thousands of dollars. More importantly, a potential health risk was properly assessed and mitigated. They charged me just their service fee so we will be calling them again for any other problems.
After the fact, multiple people told me that restoration work has become big business (and not necessarily in a good way). 24/7 truly breaks the mold in this industry by prioritizing accuracy and integrity over profit.

There was a misdiagnosis and incorrect initial estimate regarding the mold situation. It turned out to be a localized issue rather than the entire ceiling needing remediation as I was told. I agreed to the estimate based on a much larger scope of work (3-5 days), but it turned out to be only 4 hours of work. To be fair, I offered to pay half of the agreed amount, but they proceeded to charge my credit card based on their full initial, incorrect estimate.

"I noticed water mysteriously finding its way into one of the bedrooms and all over the tile floor and walls. I thought it was due to a drain backed up which I had been having problems with in the near bathroom. I was referred over to 24/7 Restoration from a friend who had been visiting for lunch. I was concerned because we had just had the plumbing fixed. I wasn't sure whether I needed to call my insurance company first but she said to have 24/7 come do a free inspection first before talking to my insurance provider. They were very prompt after I gave them a call. The gentleman who had come out was very professional and nice. He explained in detail what he was going to do to help determine what was going on. He even arranged to meet with the adjuster to explain what I would have never been able to about the damage. It only took about three days with their equipment setup to dry my bathroom, hallway, and bedroom out.
Although I was very stressed out at the time because I had family flying out in a couple weeks, 24/7 somehow got me through this nightmare and not only repaired and cleaned up the water. I now realize why I am so happy and lucky to have had them out. I don't think I would have had all that work done and covered with minimal out of pocket expense had I used the insurance preferred company. I would absolutely recommend 24/7 Restoration to help anyone with any type of flooding or repairs!"

Water damage restoration - what happens now?
Our technicians will first assess the affected areas, determine the water damage source, and identify any safety concerns. For buildings constructed before 1978, California law requires testing for lead and asbestos by a certified environmental hygienist before material removal. Drying may commence while awaiting results. For structures built in 1978 or later, we begin with containment and air filtration if necessary. Non-salvageable porous materials are removed and discarded. We apply anti-microbial disinfectant to exposed framing and salvageable areas. Drying equipment is strategically placed and operates continuously until satisfactory results are achieved. The process typically takes two days to a week, depending on the extent of damage. We document the entire drying process and take photographs for our records and insurance claim purposes.
Phase 1: Mold remediation & removal - what happens now?
Our technicians will first determine the approximate area affected by mold growth. For buildings constructed before 1978, California law mandates testing for lead and asbestos by a certified environmental hygienist prior to material removal. For structures built in 1978 or later, we begin with containment and air filtration. We remove and discard any non-salvageable affected porous materials. Exposed framing is treated through a combination of wire brushing, sanding, anti-fungal treatment, and in some cases, application of mold-resistant encapsulant. Sub-flooring on upper levels may need replacement if compromised. Dehumidification and air filtration equipment is strategically placed and should operate continuously until satisfactory results are achieved.
Phase 2: Build back & reconstruction - does 24/7 do repairs?
Yes, 24/7 Restoration, a division of Epic Interiors & Construction Inc., offers comprehensive repair services following water or mold damage remediation. We can restore your property to its pre-loss condition, including insulation, drywall, texture, paint, cabinets, baseboards, flooring, and more. As a full-service general contractor, we strive to make it appear as if nothing ever happened. We provide repair estimates after the completion of the mitigation and/or remediation phase. The timeline for beginning repairs typically ranges from one week to a month after phase 1 completion, depending on various factors including insurance provider approvals and personal authorizations for estimates.
What are the most common materials to be affected and removed?
Water and mold damage can significantly impact organic porous materials in your home or office. Common affected materials include baseboards, crown molding, sheetrock/drywall, cabinetry, countertops, and flooring. The extent of removal depends on the water damage category and presence of mold growth. Baseboards and crown molding may need replacement or detachment for drying. Drywall often requires removal if significantly affected. Cabinetry damage varies based on material and construction. Countertops, especially natural stone, are prioritized for salvage when possible. Flooring materials like carpet, laminate, and hardwood each have specific considerations for salvage or replacement based on the extent and type of damage.
Asbestos, lead, mold post clearance - do I need testing?
Testing requirements vary depending on the situation. For structures built before 1978, California law mandates testing for lead and asbestos by a certified environmental hygienist prior to material removal. We may recommend testing for buildings constructed up to 1980, depending on factors such as geographical location and presence of specific materials. Post-mold clearance testing is sometimes covered by insurance for mold remediation claims. It provides a lab analysis of spore types and counts compared to outdoor air quality, determining if the remediated area is safe for occupancy. While post-mold testing is optional, it may be necessary for larger-scale remediations.
What is mold?
Mold refers to various species of fungi that can be found both indoors and outdoors. While the exact number of fungal species is unknown, estimates range from tens of thousands to potentially over three hundred thousand. Molds thrive in warm, damp, and humid conditions, reproducing through spores. These spores can survive harsh environmental conditions, including dry environments that don't typically support mold growth. Common indoor molds include Cladosporium, Penicillium, Alternaria, and Aspergillus.
How do molds affect people? Where are molds found? How can people decrease mold exposure?
Mold exposure can cause various health effects, particularly in sensitive individuals. Symptoms may include nasal congestion, eye irritation, wheezing, or skin irritation. Severe reactions can occur in people with serious mold allergies or those exposed to large quantities in occupational settings. Molds are ubiquitous, found both indoors and outdoors year-round, thriving in damp, shady areas. To reduce mold exposure, maintain indoor humidity levels below 50%, use air conditioners or dehumidifiers, ensure proper ventilation, add mold inhibitors to paints, clean bathrooms with mold-killing products, avoid carpeting in bathrooms and basements, and promptly remove water-damaged carpets and upholstery. Areas with high mold exposure include antique shops, greenhouses, saunas, farms, mills, construction areas, flower shops, and summer cottages.
Is my home insured for water damage?
Water damage coverage in home insurance policies typically applies to sudden and accidental incidents. The extent of coverage depends on your specific policy. To determine your coverage, review your homeowners or renters insurance policy's declarations page, which outlines water damage coverage, deductibles, limitations, and exclusions. Alternatively, contact your insurance agent for clarification. When filing a claim, you'll need to provide information about the source of water intrusion, affected areas, and documentation from certified professionals. It's important to note that you're not obligated to use your insurance company's preferred vendor for restoration services.
